4.0 out of 5 stars Well
I had no idea that Katey Sagal had such a wonderful voice until I heard her sing "Suddenly Semour" on Scott Dreier's self-titled album! So I bought her cd--it's fantastic. She has a great rock and roll sound, a bit raspy and very sensual.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm sad to give it this rating, but here's why...
I was never a fan of Married with Children, but I am a fan of Futurama, which is where I first heard Katey sing as her character Leela in a musical number at the end of an episode. I thought, "Hmmmm...Katey Sagal sounds like she's done this before".

And sure enough, a little research led me to her CD's. I bought this one, listened to it a couple of times,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch!, September 16, 2006

This is one of my favorite commerical recordings ever! Ever!

Katey Sagal has a beautiful alto/mezzo soprano voice that caresses the entire CD. I don't know why I bought it when I did. She was still on Married With Children at the time, and except for her gimmicky get-up (the hair, etc) I didn't like her in it, nor anyone else --- well, except maybe Bud (LOL). He was hilarious! But I digress.

I had never seen her in anything else, and I sure had never heard her sing a single note. I was in the store, saw the CD on display and thought, "Why not?" Man was I floored! Every single song on the album is perfect! [I've got a pet peeve with one lyric on the whole recording and she's not even the one singing it: "Valley high, valley low?" Who's ever heard of a high valley? I'm digressing again.] She doesn't go off in the sky with ridiculous riffs, she just sings the songs with some great ad-libbing, period.

And that last song, "Dignity!" Why, why, why was it not a hit? This is a most fine piece of work! As I said, one of my favorite commercial recordings ever! Get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Katey's CD's . . ., October 15, 2006
This review is from: Well (Audio CD)
Like many people, I have been watching Katey Sagal on television for years and knew she was a great comedic actor and have recently discovered her dramatic chops through guest spots on such shows as Lost & Boston Legal. But very recently, I have experienced her incredible singing talent, too.
I first found Katey on Scott Dreier's self-titled cd on their version of "Suddenly, Seymour" from the Broadway musical "Little Shop of Horrors".(check it out. Also a great album.) The beautiful blend of their voices and the ability of these two fine actors to put across the lyric makes this an amazing cut; and led me to Katey's "Well..." (and "Room"). Her voice is easy and strong at the same time. A former Harlette (back-up singer for Bette Midler), this woman is a seasoned performer, has clearly lived some life, and both come through on this great cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Personally Moving Album!., May 27, 2006

When I found out that Katey Sagal sang I had to track down this album which I have been having for a couple of years now. I have been a fan of Katey Sagal since I seen her as Peggy Bundy on "Married With...Children". Katey on this album spills her heart out about lost and pain which was originally written to and for her still born child that passed away, it might seem depressing but this album is actually written and sung very beautifully and it's very moving too. Her vocals are great, The music is not cheesy, the background vocals are not bad or is Katey's voice annoying like some other reviewer said. The album is personal to me, I have not lost a child or have had one before, but this is the type of album that whatever you or a love one has been through you can relate to. I can never really get a good feel to write this review on this album because it has so many layers to it, that it makes it hard to explain. In my opinion this album is great.

I hope this review was helpful to whoever reads it.

Katey Sagal's debut album was released in 1994,during the run of her Fox Emmy-winning sitcom Married...With Children. Previously,Sagal was a participant in the all-star emsemble Voices That Care, recording the track of the same title for a tribute to the fighting men in 1991's Operation Desert Storm. Fans of Sagal also own ROOM(the follow-up),and the DVD's Married...With Children Seasons 1-4.

This is one of the greatest CD in this kind of music. If you are a fan of Katey SAgal, then you will love this CD. Katey sings her heart out. All the songs on this album has been sung with a heart-felt sense.

I bought this one, listened to it a couple of times, and then wondered how such a remarkable vocal talent could make such an unremarkable album. And I absolutely mean no diss of Katey. I've heard some of the covers she's done lately for the Sons of Anarchy series and it's like she's channeling Bobbie Gentry (for anyone who knows who she was). In this world of Autotune garbage we really need singers like Katey. She could take her voice and do a CD of cover tunes with fresh arrangements and I'll be it would work.

The problem is that all the songs seem to sound the same. "Can't Hurry the Harvest" is a beautiful song with a great message, but it doesn't stand out among the other tracks because they all go together into this hazey mishmash of soulful adult contemporary sounding...stuff.

That said, I'm going to try this CD out as headphone music at work. It may be one of those CDs that has to grow on you over repeated listenings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great voice, bad production, September 12, 2003

I must say I think Katey Segal has one of the best vocal talents out there... but track after track, her arrangements and backgounds are monotonous and cheesy. Everything is synthesized and lends no heart to this sultry voice. Hope she releases another album with a better producer.

This cd is the best I have heard in this type of music. I love the songs. Katey sings from the heart. She's really great at it. I wish she would come out with another album.

I love Katey Sagal as an actress and as a person, and so I had to check out her music album. I was optimistic and biased toward liking anything she did. Actually I do like her singing voice. Unfortunately the songs are just not winners. If she got the right songs, arrangement and production, I believe she could make a great album. "Well" is ok. but not something I'm going to play very often. Not a single song that makes the great threshold. A few make it to pretty good. So if your a fan of MS. Sagal you may want to save your money here and risk it on a newer attempt of hers.
