Laid back...,

This review is from: We'll Keep Looking (Audio CD)
The other day I walked into Sammy's store The Album in Lexington, KY, the place I go for all my hip-hop music. There's always something playing. I was looking around and found myself feeling relaxed. My foot was tapping and my head was bobbing a little bit, kind of like a leaf in the breeze. I didn't find anything I wanted so I asked Sammy what was playing. He told me that it was something new, Pseudo Slang, from New York. He said he hadn't moved from his chair since he'd put it in.So I listened to a few more tracks and I knew I had to get this. It's rare for me to find a hip-hop album that really stands out as unique and memorable the way We'll Keep Looking does. I dig relaxed, jazzy stuff that you can put on and sit and listen to and enjoy. It's not banging, it's not going to shake a club or rattle your car or play on the radio. If there were a music video for any of these songs, I don't picture it having hoes or champagne or blunts, instead it would be a sunset or leaves blowing from a tree in the fall. This record is gonna get your head bobbing and chill you out. The beats are great, a lot of piano and live sounding drums, really jazzy and relaxed like I've been saying. The rhymes are way above average but they don't really stand out too much over the course of the album. They sort of blend in, like another instrument in the band. But there are lines and rhymes that made me do a double take. I don't know anything about who Pseudo Slang is or what they are about but I can't wait to find out. I'm amazed by the flow of this album. It's like one long deep breath that inhales the autumn air and exhales all the worries. I could listen to this while I'm sitting under a tree or laying in front of the open window or sipping some hot chocolate or writing. Chill is the only way I can describe it. But it isn't a boring chill. It's got a little bit of bite, the way jazz or a poem can have bite. This is my favorite hip-hop album of the year so far. A lot of people are going to sleep on this. If you like jazzy, chill, well made hip-hop, this album delivers it all in spades.
