4.0 out of 5 stars Surprise!!
Though this book has a slow start... the last 1/3rd is very engrossing! The outcome was a surprise for me and I NEVER suspected the murderer!

This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Hardcover)
For anyone who loves the classic murder mystery story, Mary Higgins Clark's We'll Meet Again will exceed every expectation. The story centers on the socialite Molly Carpenter Lasch, who, five years prior to the beginning of the story, pled guilty to murdering her husband, Dr. Gary Lasch, despite the fact she remembered nothing about the night he was killed. After being released on parole, Molly asserts her innocence again in front of the media. Among the media, Fran Simmons, an old classmate of Molly's from high school, begins covering the story for the local television station for a segment called True Crimes. Molly contacts Fran and convinces Fran to help her investigate the murder further in order to find the answers to that tragic night. During the course of the investigation, tragedy strikes again when the body of a key witness is discovered only hours after Molly questioned the witness. To the surprise of many, the book holds the reader captive until the very end. This is one of Clark's best works so far. For a fast paced and intriguing murder mystery, We'll Meet Again is one of the best new novels available right now and a must read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprise!!, August 1, 2001
This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Mass Market Paperback)
Though this book has a slow start... the last 1/3rd is very engrossing! The outcome was a surprise for me and I NEVER suspected the murderer!

"We'll Meet Again" is another book in the long list of excellent and very entertaining mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark.

This story is about Molly, a wife convicted of murdering her cheating husband, Gary. She does not remember the night of his death at all. When she is released from prison she asks her friend, Fran, an investigative reporter to help her find her husband's murderer, even if it turns out to be herself (Molly). While Fran investigates, another murder is committed and it looks like Molly will be tried for this death also!

While Fran uncovers an inhumane research project that Gary and partners are involved in at the hospital she is nearly murdered herself!

Overall, this book is very interesting with a surprising conclusion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Higgins Clark delivers again!!!!!, October 29, 1999
This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Hardcover)
In my opinion, the best mystery writer ever! As in all of her books, the characters and plot are sensational. Never a dull moment and as always, a surprise ending.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't really live up to Clark's standards., October 16, 1999

I feel there are many other books by her that are MUCH better. This one was difficult to begin and the only part that drew me to the novel was the very ending. This is the only book of hers that has not currently won any prizes...it's for a good reason!

1.0 out of 5 stars A "who cares" whodunit..., April 18, 2000

This book was a waste of trees. Clark spent more time describing the clothes her characters were wearing at any given moment rather than trying to develop their personalities. The storyline was quite like a vaudeville show, designed to make you hiss at the villains and sigh at the dramatic entrances of the wronged Connecticut socialite. Don't bother with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intense Mystery That Will Hold you Until the end!, November 29, 2000
By

This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Mass Market Paperback)
"We'll Meet Again" is a mystery about a woman who is convicted and serves time for killing her husband. Although, she doesn't believe she could take another human life, and her memory of the night her husband was murdered is very foggy. I am a new reader of mysteries and the only other one I've read was "The Cradle Will Fall" also by Clark. The plot in the beginning appears to be very similar, malpractice of hospitals and the beautiful woman is the main character. But, this is no ordinary novel. Once I really got to know the characters and got more into the plot, it became very interesting book. Clark does a very good job with description in her writing. The different scenes and characters throughout the novel are so well described, as to when you get to middle of the book you feel as if your just looking on, in these peoples lives. This quote is from the beginning, when the main character, Molly, comes back to her house to describe it, "...touching her grandmother's ornate silver tea service in the dining room while willing herself not to think of the prison dining room, the coarse plates, the meals that had been like ashes in her mouth. Everything seemed so familiar, yet she couldn't help feeling herself to be an intruder." Clark does a great job of incorporating personality characteristics, while still describing the setting as in the above quote. Not only does she describe scenes well, but also she describes characters very well also. "Her body filled out, and like her mother and sister she was now size 14. The dark hair that used to bounce on her shoulders was a trim curly cap around her heart shaped face." Her wording in how she writes, is amazing to me how she can she can find simple descriptive words like "curly cap" and "heart shaped face" and uses the same creative style throughout. Besides being very descriptive, she also creates irony in both this story and "The Cradle Will Fall." Situational irony is used a lot by her which makes the novel that much more suspenseful. You know what the other character's in the book are thinking and planning on doing, but at the same time the other character is oblivious and usually a character or two gets themselves into trouble. It raises this urge in you to scream "No, Don't go there!" Overall, the book, plot and characters were very well described and easy to follow. Sometimes it almost seems like her description of some items almost too overwhelming, and repetitive. But it's a very good book, and has an interesting twist at the end!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic MHC, June 20, 2000
This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Mass Market Paperback)
Okay, okay, I will admit that MHC is not absolute my favorite author (she is up there though). However, I always know that when I read one of her novels, I will be thoroughly engrossed for atleast 2 days. While her stories are not the most complex in plot, and I usually have the mystery figured out by the end, I still must validate her by saying this is an excellent book. Her novels are certainly page-turners and her characters are well drawn. I greatly sympathized with Molly Lasch through all the ups and downs, as well as the main heroine, Fran Simmons. I thoroughly recommend this novel to anyone that wants a good book to read that is not too heavy on plot and explanation, but prefers something with substance. Happy Reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars SUSPENSE AND MYSTERY, May 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Mass Market Paperback)
Mary Higgins Clark does it again with another book that promises to surprise the reader with the turn of every page. The characters are wonderfully developed, and the author carefully reveals the various secrets of each character's pasts. This novel also goes behind the scenes of a hospital that also has a few secrets of its own. After the wealthy Molly Lasch is released from prison, her main purpose is to go on a quest to find the real killer with the help of a college friend who becomes a well-known reporter. Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars We will NOT meet again, April 17, 2000
This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Hardcover)
I have no idea how this story even made it to publication. Could this have been one of MHC's first stories, before she developed her ability to tell a GOOD story? Maybe she missed a deadline and had to turn in this abomination. This was the WORST MHC book I have ever read. I'll admit I have only read the first four (in high school), but I enjoyed them. A coworker let me borrow this book, and I thought it would be fun to read some mystery fluff. Boy, was I wrong. Not only were detailed elements omitted, and many things not explained, the characters were LAME! The whole idea of the hospital scam was not bad, it's just the characters did not seem deep enough to handle what was actually going on. There is no way these shallow characters would have survived in the "real" world. Molly was pathetic. Fran was ok. The bad guys were somewhat entertaining. The story as a whole just didn't seem to work. And WOW at all the coffee drinkers. EVERYONE drank coffee all the time. Molly would always have coffee AND juice(how many times did I read THAT). I wanted to scream, "Just have a soda! Lemonade! Anything different will do! " I'm ranting & raving over picky things, but perhaps the details became annoying because the storyline was not worth much. Also the story centered around wealthy people, but they were all so snooty! Even the characters you were supposed to like went overboard. It's like it was a crime to wear jeans! I don't know about the rest of the world, but casual to me is JEANS. Not "slacks and a silk blouse". I have no idea how/why I even finished this book. What happened Mary?

4.0 out of 5 stars Hang In There -- It Gets Better!, January 13, 2000
This review is from: We'll Meet Again (Hardcover)
As a member of the newly formed book club, "The Final Word Literary Guild" I was forced to read this book. If you've ever watched a movie with a slow start and wonder why you're watching it only to be totally surprised and enthralled at the end, that's the effect reading "We'll Meet Again" will have on you. A slow and almost sleepy beginning with too many characters but a knock out ending -- well worth the wait.
