If you've seen the movie "Dr. Strangelove" - and you should see it, it's one of the best movies ever made - you've heard Vera Lynn sing "We'll Meet Again" over the closing credits. Vera Lynn was the British equivalent of the American Andrews Sisters, singers whose patriotic and sentimental songs resonated with the soldiers fighting in faraway places. This song is on several albums. This is the 3:01 version. The American singer Peggy Lee did a very nice version of this song, but I prefer Vera Lynn. Another Vera Lynn favorite of mine is "The White Cliffs of Dover," another of her WWII songs. |
