Yes, this review category may be in the wrong section, but only somewhat.
This Weller TL7 tip is used for the Weller WLC100 soldering station which is marketed as a hobby item, not a professional one. Pro models have removable cords and temperature control feedback to assure a constant temperature. None the less, this is a great, if not the best, soldering pencil an electronics hobbyist can get. I bought this TL7 conical (fine and pointy) tip because I think the provided TL6 chisel tip is too big and awkward for all general electronics work - hobbyist and pro. This tip works great when the temp control dial is set to "2". If I'm desoldering a lead on a ground plane, then I might have to temporarily crank the dial up to "3" or "4".

I ordered this tip Jan 30, 2010... it arrived today, Feb 4, 2010. Very reasonable shipping time!
As soon as I discovered it was in my mailbox, I rushed out to try it out... the old one easily came out, and the new one slid right now. Tightened it down.. then tried it out. With the bigger tip that the WLC100 came with, I had to use a heat setting of about 4, and it was a little bulky for soldering connections on circuit boards, etc. This new tip is absolutely fantastic... DAY AND NIGHT DIFFERENCE in the ease of use. If you need a more precise tip for circuit boards, etc... I highly recommend this tip, it makes soldering those delicate, tighter connections much, much easier. I was hesitant to order this tip because of another reviewer saying it did not fit his WLC100 station... but it does indeed fit perfectly and works great. I used a heat setting of 3 instead of 4 with this new tip, and it works perfectly.

A Must Have Item,

I use mine with Cooper Tools WP25 Weller. This is the smallest tip in the ST series made for WP25. Must have for printed circuit repair. Buy several of these for your compatible iron. Weller has a tip recycling program with rebates for new tips. www.action-electronics.com is a more dedicated website for soldering irons and accessories. There you'll find maintenance and detailed parts info.

I'm not sure why Amazon is asking how much fun this toy is... I wouldn't think any kids I know would like a soldering iron tip. Not much else to say about it. Works good, lasts long time.

When I tried to review this, it asked me a bunch of questions about how fun, durable, educational, etc., this toy is. It's not a toy, it's a part for a soldering station. Weird. Anyway, it's pretty self-explanatory.

Wrong Part, Does not fit the WLC100,

I really needed this tip to finish up my project, but it's not the right part, it doesn't fit the WLC100, and the packaging does not even say that it fits - it says it is made for another type of weller iron. It slides into the iron, but it has a hollow core instead of a solid one, and does not get hot enough to melt anything. I'm sure it's a fine tip in the iron it is made for, but since they are advertising it as fitting the WLC100 I gave it 1 star.

It works great for about 10 joints...then it all goes downhill. The tip will stop getting hot in certain points, making solder stick to it permanently. You then have to find a "hot spot" and use that one spot if you want to solder. This is the second one I bought, both doing the same thing. Maybe I'm not taking care of it correctly, but I tin it before every use, and I store it correctly. The tip turns blue after awhile (maybe i have too much heat)...not recommended for non-expert use.
