Old Reliable Soldering Gun,

This is my third Weller professional soldering gun in twenty years or so. That says it all. Lower wattage guns are useless when you need to have the correct heat for working on heavy metal parts. My Weller guns have never failed but were replaced due to rough physical handling and accident damage around the shop. There may be other brands as good as Weller on the market but I don't like to change things that work well for me.

This worked great for me. I loved the linoleum cutter that was included in this.

The Soldering Gun I received did not have working lights. Also, the coating on the factory soldering tip emits a bad odor for the first few uses. You might want to heat it up outside, or by a strong vent, when first using, until the odor is gone. Amazon was good to have the repair of the lights, by a local technician, reimbursed to me. The Soldering Gun has worked fine since. I would blame any trouble on Quality Control at the Weller factory. No product should leave the factory without being checked for proper operation, in my opinion.

I used it for about 10 minutes and the gun smoked from the housing and then died right there in my hand. Amazon was quick to replace it and the second one has worked fine. Through the years I have gone several of these guns. One improvement that could be made is the way the tips are mounted and secured. There has to be a better way that their engineering department could update their design. Other than that it is a good, not great gun.
