Had my big noble boy dog, who had been with me for ten years, die of Cancer recently. He was a animal shelter rescue (As all my pets have been, and are.), and a great creature who never wanted to ever show weakness. By the time he did show weakness, the Cancer was far too advanced to operate on or save him and he died within a month.

That set me to feeding my two dogs (His mate who is still with me, and her new mate) ONLY quality dog food. It costs more; but after seeing what was in the average store dog food on internet posts, and confirmed on dog food cans labels, that convinced me to try something better.

I researched the net for the top ten dog foods, and this brand kept coming up in the lists consistently; including Veterinary sites. Made only with grain free quality ingredients, and otehr healthy additions for good digestion, my two dogs eat it enthusiastically, and I highly recommend it.

Both dogs are fed Wellness brand "Beef Stew" and Wellness brand "Lamb and Beef Stew", alternating for variety in their diets; they love both equally, and both canned foods are equally healthy.

So I finally found this food after months of experimenting with different brands. After Healthy Extensions, Purina One Beyond (which is probably garbage), and Blue Buffalo, I finally settled on Wellness brand food. My little mini-doxie got very sick off a can of Blue Buffalo chicken so I swore off any chicken for them, but their beef stew I'd also recommend. Purina One Beyond used to make both my mini-doxie and Papillon have just odd bathroom habits ultimately culminating in almost scheduled bouts of diarrhea. The pattern was so odd I didn't even realize it was Purina until I switched them over to Wellness Simple diet and that stopped immediately. I decided to do a mix of Wet/Dry so I switched the dry to Wellness Small Breed Super5Mix and got Wellness Beef Stew. Those have been the staples of my dogs diets for the past year and they have been happy and healthy. No mysterious bouts of diarrhea, no weird blockages, and happy dogs! Even my cat will try to sneak some of it, i guess it's good!

The ratings for this food are among the highest and my Labrador LOVES this stuff! I feel very good giving him this high quality food and am glad that my picky eater wants something that is so good for him. It's chunky and you can see peas, carrots, potato, and, of course, the chunks of meat. I highly recommend this product!

I was very concerned about ordering this dog food through Amazon, due to the high number of reviews stating that the cans were damaged or dented. However, I wanted to give it a try because the cost is $1 dollar less "per can" than when I buy locally (that's a pretty good savings). I figured, if they were damaged, I would just return them. I also noted that it was shipped and sold by Amazon, which eased my mind considerably.

The shipment I received was in excellent condition. There are a couple of cans that have very tiny dents in the bottoms (that would simply be the result of being compressed together during shipment). The dents are barely notable and in no way bad enough to cause an air hole in the can (where the risk of botulism exists). There are no swells in the can, dirt, rust, or anything else that would indicate problems. Also, the expiration date on the bottom of the can is 2017, the same as the cans I recently purchased from my local pet food store. Everything else appears identical, including the pull off lids (which I had also wondered about) and labels. I am confident that the shipment from Amazon is of the same quality that I would get purchasing locally.

As for the food itself, it is excellent. My dog loves this stuff, and it even smells good. I feel it is a healthy and well-balanced dog food on its own or mixed with a high quality dry dog food (we use Orijen). It has not caused any problems, such as gas, diarrhea, constipation, etc. I am happy to have found this dog food for a discounted price on Amazon. I will continue to purchase, unless the quality or price changes significantly. :)

***Update*** I am changing my original 5-star review above to a 1. I now understand why there were so many reviews about the cans being damaged...
