Eleven years after farmer Ben Reuben's family settles in the Oklahoma Territory in 1889, Ben's wife tragically dies. Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In turn-of-the-century Oklahoma, Ben Reuben's prosperity as a farmer and well-digger is shattered by the death of his wife, Lillie, during childbirth. Ben is left to raise the couple's four children in an uncompromising frontier land. Uncertain about their future, Ben wallows in hopelessness until he meets Isaac Samuel, a wealthy Jew who practices the loving kindness of God on all he meets, and Ranie Truden, the new schoolteacher whose strong Christian beliefs help Ben reaffirm his own faith in God. In this riveting story told in lyrical and haunting prose and featuring fully developed and sympathetic characters, freelance writer McReynolds has wrought a high-quality Christian novel that combines flawlessly the medium and the message. Highly recommended.

This review is from: Wells of Glory (Legacy of the Land/Mary Mcreynolds, Bk 1) (Paperback)
In Wells of Glory, author Mary McReynolds takes us back to that fateful rush to settlement in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma. The reader is then lead through a compelling 20th Century saga of life in that new territory. This settlement was made possible by a renewed interest in manifest destiny.

The author's story development brings us compelling characters that come alive after all those years, bringing triumph and tragedy; passion and pain with every emotion in between. Their way of life is gone forever, but the lives they lived and the values the held offer meaning to every generation. This is a universal story of faith, hope, love and courage; not always appreciated but always available.

If you are prepared to take this emotional ride it will be well worth your time and effort. It will not be easy. It's too realistic for that; no glossing over reality to please the timid and faint of heart. If you dare you will see vivid scenes like the race among the thousands seeking their own claim to the allotted parcels. All those gathered hoped for free land; they risked all, even life itself to bring new opportunity to their lives and their cherished families, but not all made it. You will see that wall of humanity as it strains toward the line as the starting gun releases an explosion of human kind. Through a hail of dust and great clods of dirt our hero rides with abandonment toward the spot where his staked flag will be driven to mark his claim.

This is but a brief paraphrase of an event you will experience. My description doesn't adequately describe the highly lyrical prose of Mary McReynolds. Yet, I do hope it is enough cause you to want more. I read a great deal over a wide range of topics genres but have rarely felt such an emotional attraction to a story. My hope and trust is that you will have a similar experience. If you do, I know the writer will have made another follower and friend.

Give Wells of Glory a try. You will not be disappointed.
