Book Description

July 1, 2008 Silver Dagger Mysteries
Spanning the globe from Washington, DC to Portugal and then North Korea, this thriller follows John Gideon, a CIA operative, as he fights for a set of gifted twins known as the Wellwishers. Kept in isolation since a young age, these 7-year-old sisters have a unique gift—whatever they wish for together comes to pass in reality—and controlling them has been the cause and crusade of many world leaders, from Genghis Khan to Hitler to the present day. As the twins become more difficult to command, they become greater targets for zealous leadership, and it is Gideon who steps in as their protector and begins a thrilling standoff against greed and domination.

From the Inside Flap

Amy and Emily were holding hands. Their eyes were locked tight in intense concentration. Their tiny shoulders rose and fell in time with their rapid breathing. All of a sudden, dozens, then quickly hundreds, of ladybugs began to fly around the roof opening. More and more followed, until the air and ground were thick with them. Gideon watched the infestation in amazement, wondering where all these beautiful insects had come from. The little red-and-black bugs were everywhere -- in the air, on the ground, crawling all over them -- but not a single one landed on the girls. It was as if they were attracted to the twins by some ethereal force but at the same time were unable to light upon them. Doctor Sossoman looked up at Gideon. Hope filled her teary eyes. Charlie was smiling from ear to ear. Reyes could scarcely believe her eyes. "Be prepared," Sossoman said, her tone ominous. "I don't know what, or when, or how, but be prepared for what is about to happen." Sossoman made the sign of the cross across her breast. She whispered, "God bless anyone caught up in their wish. They are simply children. They don't know what they are about to cause."

From the Back Cover

A body is found in the trunk of a car - head, hands, and tattoos removed. Two FBI agents are killed in Lisbon while dealing in secret plans. The clues point to Kulbeda Station, a former US military based turned weather outpost. Now John Gideon - a CIA agent who specializes in fixing the kind of problems you don't want on the evening news - has to find out why Russian mobsters and North Korean commandos will stop at nothing to infiltrate the station. As his assignment deepens, he uncovers a vast political conspiracy to control wellwishers Amy and Emily Chase, seven-year-old twins who have a gift so potent their mere wish can change the balance of world power. With the help of FBI agent Natalie Reyes, Gideon must race against time to protect the twins, beginning a thrilling standoff against madmen bent on greed and domination.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Wellwishers, September 26, 2008
This review is from: The Wellwishers (Silver Dagger Mysteries) (Paperback)
Caution: Don't start the Wellwishers unless you have time to read the whole thing. It's hard to put this fast-paced novel down. This spy/political thriller keeps you guessing what is around the next corner. Clancy and Flynn have a new peer in Mr. Fountain. I'm looking forward to his next Book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Up there with the best!, May 12, 2009
This review is from: The Wellwishers (Silver Dagger Mysteries) (Paperback)
I've read a lot of espionage novels (Ludlum, DeMille, Follett, etc.), and I have to say that The Wellwishers truly holds its own. Great story, descriptive, but not overly-descriptive prose, believeable protagonists, etc. The book brought to mind DeMille's The Charm School, one of my favorites.

I've already recommended the book to a few of my friends and I will definitely read Fountain's next novel.
