The late GREAT Wendy O!,
By
This review is from: Wendy O. Williams - Bump 'n' Grind (DVD)
OK, so we don't have a Plasmatics DVD... this is the next best thing, the late Wendy O' Williams w/ Motorhead's Lemmy and Wurzel. I've had this on VHS for over ten years. The quality on this way supercedes that. 12 Songs recorded at the Camden Palace Theater, London in 1995. This is part of K-Tel (HA HA HA HA !!!!) new DVD releases. They also released VENOM if you are into the original Black Metal Band (before Black Metal).
Highly recommended!!!! MORE PUNK!!! Great sound and video. We'll miss you WENDY!!

Tracks:1. Goin' Wild I knew nothing about Wendy O. Williams' career after the Plasmatics and so was expecting Punk when I bought this DVD. But instead, in this Sept. 1985 concert in London England, Wendy hooks up with three typical '80s Metalheads for a concert that turned out to be Heavy Metal rather than Punk. While the riffs are pretty much your generic '80s Metal riffs, what makes the concert work here is the pure sweat-soaked, hard-drivin' charisma of Wendy herself. With her hoarse, raspy voice like some streetwalker who's been round the block one too many times and her taught, bodybuilding contest-worthy body, she gradually whips the crowd into a frenzy. Along the way there's some fun with sledgehammers and chainsaws, and Wendy also performs an amazing feat of strength that proves her a true rock'n'roll Amazon. Motorhead's Lemmy and Wurzel even show up to strap on their axes and join in on the action on "Jail Bait". When Wendy committed suicide in 1998 rock'n'roll lost one of its true originals, and I think it was for this originality even more than for her music that I loved her. It was real characters like her who made the music scene of the 80s so much more interesting than the world of slick, pre-fab, pre-packaged, record company-controlled "product" that we have today. Back in 1980, CITY-TV in Toronto (owners of Much Music) filmed a Plasmatics concert for their show "The New Music". But until that ever gets released to us, this will most likely remain our only precious footage of the late great Wendy O. in action. So grab yourself the DVD before it's gone, crank up that volume, and get ready to rock out -- 80s Metal style!

First of all let me tell you this is the one and only dvd available featuring W.O.W. ,because a plasmatics one (like pier 62) is yet to see the light. So I'd certainly have bought it anyway, even if it had the worst of sound and picture quality. But don't be fooled by my fanatic attitude, since I'm a discerning audio and videophile as well as a punker/metalhead.Nearly 60' of live concert, superbly captured with multiple cameras, with EXCELLENT sound to boot !! The picture is near perfect !The songs sound more metalic than on their respective, punkier studio albums.T.C. Tolliver is an unleashed animal behind his drumkit, and Motorheads' JAILBAIT version with Lemmy and Wurtzel (yes that's 2 bass guitars and 2 guitars onstage) has to be heard to be believed !!!! Visually delightful stage antics (chainsawing a guitar/sledhammering a tv set) add even more excitement to this demolishing performance. On the downside, the volume on this DVD is very low, which can pose a problem if you don't have a very powerful setup and, like me,like to play your dvds at realistic volume levels. The extras are a poor, biased bio of Wendy,a scarce, incomplete discography, and a 4 !! small pics ¨picture gallery¨,but what the heck,we're talking Wendy O here !!!!

Being particularly interested in 70's-80's music ranging from pre-punk, punk and post-punk and various parallel "movements" (new wave, goth, new romantics, etc.) I've recently discovered Wendy O and The Plasmatics. This DVD is part of my personal reconstruction of their video material, besides all there CDs, and to put it short you surely will not be dissapointed by the sheer stage charisma and sexual energy exploited by the outstanding artist which is Wendy O Williams.

Wendy O williams was fantastic and a true Punk rock Icon. The plasmatics were fantastic not only with a great lead singer but the stage shows also. Wendy always rocked the house and gave it her all. This DVD covers alot of what she was about and had great footage that is hard to come by these days. If you havnt experienced wendy and the plasmatics music get this DVD. you wont be disappointed.

Bare Bones/ No Frills Rock 'n' Roll Show,

This review is from: Wendy O. Williams - Bump 'n' Grind (DVD)
Videotaped (poorly) with no budget for effects. The band is explosive and Wendy is well...you know, Wendy. Wearing nothing more than a black leather bra, panties, and tennis shoes for much of the show,( and still in perfect condition), she is truly all the effects the show needs. There's not much of Wendy on film, so this DVD is probably all were going to get anytime soon.Buy it and be glad you got that much. What a voice!
