4.0 out of 5 stars Great Bag, but make sure your laptop fits
This is a great bag for the price. Just wish my laptop fit in the sleeve. I couldn't find anything that said the maximum laptop size that would fit, so I went by the bag width of 17", thinking the laptop sleeve would go from one side to the other. Well, it's quite a bit smaller, and my 15.4" Widescreen Acer won't fit the built in sleeve. The laptop is 14.5" wide, the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than I expected
I ordered this briefcase to replace a worn one made by another company. I was disappointed the SwissGear bag doesn't have as many compartments as my old one. I like at least four slots for pens/pencils; this has three. I like numerous pockets for sunglasses, phone, reading glasses, music player, etc.; my old bag has 7 such pockets; this one has 5. Three of those 5 are...

Well, it's quite a bit smaller, and my 15.4" Widescreen Acer won't fit the built in sleeve. The laptop is 14.5" wide, the sleeve will accept up to 13.5" wide. Which is about as small as you could make a 15.4" widescreen laptop.
I can still put it outside the sleeve, just would have been nice to know before hand, so beware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bag Low cost, December 5, 2008
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Briefcase (Black) (Personal Computers)
Low price for a well made Computer messenger Bag. Will hold your computer, a notebook, medium file folders, papers as well as pens and pencils and even you water bottle and MP3 player. The price is amazingly low for such great quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great bag for work, December 5, 2008
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Briefcase (Black) (Personal Computers)
I use this bag to carry my laptop back and forth from work and it's great. There's enough room to carry extra stuff, but it's not super bulky like some other bags I've had. I would definitely recommend it.

Great bag that is well built. Pocket for laptop is on the small side, good for me as it fit my 15" macbook perfectly. Lots of room for all your accessories. This is really a medium size briefcase with an internal padded laptop pocket. The only minus is that when sliding laptop in pocket it can get scratched by the zipper on the main opening, with a little care this can be avoided.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my T60, December 8, 2008
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Briefcase (Black) (Personal Computers)
My employer used to supply me with a new laptop every 3 years and it came with a bag. But, times are tough now. I'm only getting the laptop, no more bag. When, finally, I decided it was time to replace my old, battered case, the first brand that came to mind was SwissGear, mainly because I had previously ordered a SwissGear Computer Backpack from Amazon (it's an option if you don't like briefcases) but... my 7th grader boy grabbed it for himself before I had a chance to take possession so I went for the next best thing :)

Briefly, it's got everything that you would expect in a laptop carrying case: a padded sleeve for the laptop itself. Plenty of room to store the power adapter and other accessories, zippered compartments for papers, pens and pencils, documents and your favorite energy bars. And, of course, it's all-black, except for the little, cute red square with the Swiss cross logo. Made in China.

It's perfect for my smallish Thinkpad T60 but it may not necessarily accommodate some of the larger portables. Do check the dimensions before ordering.

Since I can't find any faults in either the design, the materials or the manufacturing, I must award it five stars.

Three of those 5 are mesh/net style, if you prefer that; I don't. Also, the file folder sections in this bag aren't as roomy as in my old bag. A feature I like about this SwissGear bag is the external side pocket which is very convenient, e.g., for a water bottle as another esteemed reviewer suggested. Other good features: a limited 3-year warranty; an optional shoulder strap that is well padded; and an exterior zippable pocket that becomes an add-a-bag sleeve into which "dolly" handle can be slipped for secure transport. If you're looking for a sturdy, good-looking bag that's compact, I recommend this one. If you want a bag into which you can slip everything but your cocker spaniel, look for a larger one.

I purchased this as a gift for my husband. As a lawyer, he needed something that wasn't too loud or sporty-looking, but as a vegetarian, he also didn't want anything that was leather. I looked for a long time, and finally found this bag which fit all of his needs.

It is very well-made and obviously well-thought out. There are several small compartments to allow for his various gadgets (Blackberry, iPod, cell phone, etc.) and a padded compartment for his laptop. He also appreciated the file organizer compartment which was large enough to hold all of his other items. We got it on sale through Amazon and it was a incredible bargain at the price we got!

I've purchased quite a few bags recently that I didn't really like, so I tried to thoroughly research this one prior to purchase - but this proved to be quite difficult. The brand name is SwissGear by Wenger. Apparently Wenger licenses the 'SwissGear' name to Group III International, Ltd. I'm still not entirely sure which company actually makes and markets the bag.

The model number is SA8715 but this model is not currently listed at the SwissGear website. The tag attached to the bag states "Computer Brief" on the front of the tag, but "Messenger Bag" on the back of the tag above the barcode. The tag claims that the bag is constructed of '1682 Denier Polyester'. This is a durable, slightly shiny material with sort of a meshy look. The two main zipper compartments consist of one designed for a notebook computer, and another with some dividers (two physical dividers which provide four usable sections) and an internal zipper compartment.

The notebook computer compartment has a formed padded section with velcro closure. This formed section is ideal for my 12" and 13" notebooks, but none of my 15.4" notebooks will fit into the formed section. A 15.4" notebook will fit into the bag, but it must be placed outside of the padded formed section - which is not ideal. Opposite the formed section in the computer compartment is a mesh pouch with three sections. The bag also has two zipper compartments on the exterior. One is flat and primarily designed as a sleeve to attach to a luggage handle, but it also can be used to store thin items. The other exterior compartment has more depth and a liner with pockets for a few pens, four credit cards, and a couple of pockets for maybe a cell phone or mp3 player. I don't use any of the liner compartments, I usually put the power transformer for my laptop in this compartment.

What I really like about this bag is that I can carry my notebook computer plus a spiral notebook and a couple of textbooks all in a slim and sleek configuration. This bag is definitely not a carry-it-all bag, but neither is it a computer-only bag. It is somewhere in the middle, which is just what I was looking for. The shoulder strap has a quite large and long shoulder pad which is extremely comfortable. The shoulder strap itself is also quite long, and allows the bag to travel as low as just below the waist level - instead of being confined to the rib section of my body. I don't really care for the red emblem on the side of the bag - it sort of makes me feel like I'm with the Red Cross. Nonetheless, I'm extremely satisfied with this bag. It is perfect for my needs and a great value. I recommend it highly so long as it is used with a computer in the 12" to 14" range.

I got a new laptop for Christmas and it is a perfect fit for the SwissGear bag. I can fit the computer, charging cord, and wireless mouse in the bag with tons of room and pockets to spare. I am very pleased with this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful organization, shoddy quality, August 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Briefcase (Black) (Personal Computers)
This is a bag that gets an "A" for looks and organization, but don't expect much in terms of quality. The handle is already fraying on mine, and it hasn't seen any heavy duty beyond being transported to and from work daily. I plan to contact the manufacturer on their warranty for it. Caveat emptor.
