Great Backpack..but one very annoying flaw!,
By
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Backpack (Blue) (Personal Computers)
All the other reviews are spot on with how well the bag works and how well they enjoy it. I myself enjoy this bag to this day. I use it as my backpack during college, and i carry roughly 10-20lbs in it daily, and its quite comfy.
Compartments - Holds almost anything and everything. I have every little gadget i need inside such as my calculator, charge cables, advil(used for long days at college and the gym), lots of books and folders. Durability - I haven't owned this bag for more than a few months, so i cannot say how well this bag will hold up. But knowing Swiss gear, it should hold up for years to come. The bag seems very well made and durable. Reliability - If this means how often it doesn't break down, then i haven't had an issue yet, but i only owned for a few months. Space efficiency - Like said above, it holds everything you could possibly need in a day trip, unless you really need very large items or lots and lots of smaller items. But on average, you should be able to carry what you'll need. Pros- -Holds everything I need -Swiss Gear was made to hold up for awhile -The price is very low! -Good looking bag -Comfy Cons- -always looks large regardless of what's inside -some of the pockets seem useless such as the large side ones, but if you can make due to using them all then ignore this con. -The worst of all in my opinion...The zippers make a lot of noise when your walking around. I had to fold my zippers into the bag so they wouldn't jingle as much. Me being a guy, i don't enjoy jingling everywhere i walk. The noise of metal clanking on every step multiplied by all the zippers on the bag is very, irritating. Good zippers, but the noise is very annoying to me. I don't write reviews, but i figure this would've been a nice thing to know about before purchasing. I still would've bought this bag because of price+size+name brand. Overall i would've given this bag 5 stars, if the zippers weren't so loud(maybe a rubber casing around each one so it doesn't sound like metal clanking everywhere, or maybe only 1 zipper per opening instead of 2 each) I'll review more as time goes by and i see more faults or things i like.

Great Backpack - Not for 15.4 Widescreen Laptops,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Backpack (Blue) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this item for my HP dv5t widescreen laptop (dimmensions 14 x 10.5 x 1.5 inches). The computer backpack is very study and good quality. The laptop padded sleeve compartment will accomodate my HP 15.4 widescreen and the bag zippers closed ok, but about the top 1 inch sticks out from the compartment and since there isn't any padding around the zipper area it leaves the top 1 inch area exposed to any potential impacts. The backpack does have a velcro strap that prevents the laptop from sliding out of the pouch and is very well padded along the back and bottom, just wish the laptop sleeve would have been a bit taller to offer better protection from side impacts. Overall I would not recommend this to anyone with a laptop over 13 inches. My HP dv5t is also about the limit which would for inside this computer backpack.

This is a great product. It holds a 15" laptop, school books, a megazoom camera, and a lot more. It is very well designed and comfortable to wear. The compartments are well thought out for holding all your gear. I would definitely buy it again.

HI,
I purchased this bag 4 months back. Pros: I like the color of the bag more than anything. It is not dark or light blue. Besides color, all other features of swiss gear bags are there with a nice, durable cloth and stylish swiss gear metal logo on the top of the bag. The front pocket has 5 small pockets in it with a pens holder in it.There is a key chain holder too inside this pocket. The top small pocket is good enough to keep ID cards. Behind this top small pocket, there is hidden pocket, in which I usually keep my purse some times :). Cos it is invisible. It has two large compartments with a lap top backpack. It has nice cushion all around enough for a 14.1 inch lap top. Top of the lap top pocket has two small pockets made with the net. There are two sides pockets enough to hold small to medium sized bottles. Conns: I wish they could add one more compartments to th bag, cos the compartments are not that big. They are big enough to hold 3 medium sized books. When you travel, you can comfortably fit the shoe in it along with pant and shirt in the first compartment and a laptop in the back pack. The zipper for the front small pocket which has cover for protection from the rain is hard to unzip. It is too tights to unzip. As a whole, I like the bag. It is very nice, neat and cool for carrying a laptop and couple of books.

Very nice bag at a good price. I am using it as a computer bag for my 13 inch Laptop. (15 inch will not fit properly) and as a camera bag. All my stuff fits with spare room.
This was priced at $79 at Micro Center in St Davids PA. Got it overnight from Amazon for $38

Long term report,

This review is from: SwissGear Computer Backpack (Blue) (Personal Computers)
I've owned this backpack since 2005. To give you and idea of how long I've owned it, I'm writing this review in Jan 2012.
During that time, I've used this backpack almost everyday except for a year when I used a Timbuk2 messenger bag. So that's about 6 years; and I'm still using for school today. I got this bag before going to college in 2005. It was ugly and I had never heard of Swiss Gear backpacks back then, so I was skeptical. I mainly used the backpack to carry notebooks, my laptop, lunch, and gym clothes when going to school. I would also do grocery shopping with this bag and stuff it to the brim with groceries. It was wide on my back and when empty and flat, reminded me of a turtle shell. One of the things I dont like is that there isn't enough space. Just packing a few shirts and a pair of jeans seems to take up the whole space. I wish the bag was bigger. It is also hard to access stuff at the bottom. I wish the zippers went all the way to the bottom so you could open it like a clamshell, and arrange stuff more easily in it like a suitcase. After about 5 years I noticed the lining on the bottom and near the zippers was wearing out. It is this brown rubbery mesh looking material that is ripping off in small pieces. I've spilled many lunches and accidentally mashed many bananas on the bottom of the bag. That may attribute to the degradation of the lining of the bag. The bottom of the bag is now nearly see-through and offers no impact cushioning. They should have used a stronger material there. The back padding of the bag flattened out and became useless about a year after using the bag. In 2006 I took the bag on a hike in the forests of Korea, and the back pads became drenched in sweat. They were no longer the same after that. They became very flat and didn't really raise the bag off my back to let air through. So they should have designed the back pads to be more durable. The side pockets' elastic is no longer tight. If I put a water bottle in them and I bend over to tie my shoe, the bottle falls out. I think I noticed this back in 2006, a year of using the bag. Also the side pockets are pitifully short; most water bottles would fall out even if the elastic was tight. Wenger, take a look at REI bags' side mesh pockets which are taller design yours like that. The strong nylon that is part of the right shoulder strap has ripped apart at the seam where it connects to the bag. Now only the very stretchy part of the shoulder strap is holding it together. Since it stretches one side more than the other, I have to make the straps on the right side shorter to compensate. I'm a bit disappointed the strong nylon of the shoulder strap would fail. Even though 6 years is a long time, I expected it to last longer than that. Wenger, you should design more durable shoulder straps that have a lifetime guarantee; have stronger stitching of the shoulder strap to the bag. I never used that elastic pocket in front of the laptop compartment, I think they should get rid of that. But it has been stretched out too. I also never use the bottom front pocket, and the intermediate space between the front of the bag and the main space. The top front pocket of the bag, I use for little things because its easy to access. But I'm always losing coins and batteries and small things in that pocket. They end up getting wedged to the corner edges of the pocket near the zipper and aren't seen when you open the pocket. Wenger, you should get rid of small hiding places like that in pockets. The zippers are all still working which is good. So basically my reasons for 3 stars are mainly for the failure of the strong nylon of the shoulder strap, wearing out of the bottom of the bag, and looseness of the side pockets, and some design issues stated above. I'll continue to use this bag until it totally fails on me, which is either the bottom wearing so thin that stuff starts falling out, or the right shoulder strap breaks apart. Hopefully that doesn't happen when I'm riding my bicycle to school. My next bag may be another Swiss Gear bag depending if they're on sale (less than $20), but I'm looking to more durable bags such as Timbuk2, Chrome, Kelty, or vintage Jansport. I'm willing to spend more money on a bag that will last a lifetime, which from my experience are not Swiss Gear bags.

I used it for more than one year on a daily basis. Everyday I carry at least laptop in it. Excellent durability. No problems, no signs of wore. Light, reasonably priced, comfortable. I would recommend it to everybody.
The only disadvantage is that if carry a small laptop (14 inches, something like ThinkPad T60) the laptop compartment is too big, and a laptop is a kind of unstable unless you fill that compartment with extra things. The strip could be longer to accommodate thinner laptops.

Backpack fell apart in 4 months,
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Backpack (Blue) (Personal Computers)
Bought this backpack to replace a Targus laptop backpack I used for 5 years. This backpack although very roomy and good looking (blue) fell apart in less than 4 months! I use a backpack to sling my laptop back and forth to work and use it while traveling - moderate use. Will not buy a Swiss Gear product again. I'll stick to the Targus brand.
