4.0 out of 5 stars Great Tent
I have taken this tent on 5 camping trips. Very easy to set up. Lots of room. Great for tall people like me as I can stand inside and walk around it. All four walls and the ceiling are well ventilated. The rain canopy is very easy to put on after the tent is already set up. It is so big and roomy inside that my friends call it the 'Taj' and the 'party tent'. I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Tent, September 18, 2005

All four walls and the ceiling are well ventilated. The rain canopy is very easy to put on after the tent is already set up. It is so big and roomy inside that my friends call it the 'Taj' and the 'party tent'. I would have given this 5 stars except that the spring guy wires in the poles no longer work in 3 of the poles and one of the nylon peg loops have already come off. THe poles still work without the springs but you have to make sure that the sections don't come apart as you are setting up the tent.

5.0 out of 5 stars great family tent, July 25, 2005
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
We used this tent for a weekend camping trip over July 4th. When we arrived at the campsite around 10:30pm, it took my husband and myself about 10 minutes to set the tent up. We got finished just before the sky opened up and drenched everything! Thunder and lightning galore! I was worried and spent the next hour or so with a flashlight trained on the seams and the roof searching for leaks. There was only one tiny leak at the bottom of the door. We got about a tablespoon of water and that was it! (I had not sealed the seams before we used the tent!)
All in all I was very pleased with the performance of this tent. It is roomy, fitting a full size air mattress and a queen size one, gear, a small table and a family of four! I recommend this tent highly!

4.0 out of 5 stars Shade tent bought for dog agility events, August 9, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
I bought the tent cause it is large and will provide alot of shade for me and the dogs at a dog agility trial. Love that every wall seems to zip open but there are still screens to shade and keep out bugs.

Good news is I can easily put it together myself. Bad news is that one of the flexible pole insert things pulled out the first time I put it up. I stuffed it back in and it works, but bit disappointed it broke the very first time.

The other thing is it's a bit on the heavy side. I think it said 43 pounds, which didn't sound that heavy until I picked it up at the post office! So I'm not going to be walking far and carrying it.

BUT once it's up, it will be perfect at the show. Lot's of room for me and my dogs and friends. Easy to put up, good directions on the bag.

2.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy construction, poor storm protection, September 9, 2005
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
After considering ordering a custom made tent I decided to hold off and purchase this one. I was looking for a tent that would open up like a screenhouse, this was the only one that I found.

-The small windows to the side of the doors close from the inside with zippers on the left and right sides. They are sewn at the bottom and are open on the top.
-All the protective flaps over the doors are on the outside of the tent, which means that if you wake to an outside storm you are going to get very wet as you open the screen doors to close the flaps. Make sure you bring a weather radio. Keep in mind that if you prop up a flap like in the photo you will be left with poles and guylines laying on the ground if you need to put the flap down. These flaps do not zip at the bottom, but they do zip down the left and right sides. Also, unlike regular tent windows, you can't partially open the large windows if it is hot and sticky and there is a "chance" of rain. You have to choose all the way up, or down, and use the small windows for venting.
-The screens seem very flimsy - not sure yet if they can hold off the no-see-ums. On the other hand if they had the heavy duty mesh that quality tents have it would be a lot heavier. The screens remind me of the girl scout camp tents from the 70s.
-The structure, without the tent, is very flimsy. The tent is what gives it holding power. The tubes are not the heavy ones I am accustomed to with a canvas type cabin tent, these remind me of the tubes that rust out or crack on cheap arbors available at discount stores. They do provide a freestanding unit when the tent or awning is added.
-The top of the rainfly is open dangerously close to the top. I would sew it shut but then moisture would condense at the top and drip back into the tent. The awning doesn't seem to sag anywhere, on the contrary it all seems nice and tight except for the top vent, which seems to have way too much fabric. Enough to flap in the downbursts of a storm.
-The floor is a nice addition if you use it as a screen house. Helps to ensure mosquitos, mice, spiders and snakes don't snuggle up next to you while you are enjoying yourself.

I have decided that this is a tent I would only use during fair weather camping when I can be sure it's not going to rain but I still need protection from the mosquitos. I would send it back but to order the same setup in canvas would cost about $1200. Maybe I'll get lucky at a rummage sale...

One person can set up this tent, but it does help if you have previous tent experience. I suggest you practice setting this tent up as the rainfly can be tricky to install.

I have been in many tents, through many different types of weather in many different states, but never overseas. I am not impressed by this one, but it is the only one I found of its type.

I hate spending money on shipping but this tent is going back to where it came from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Camping with Toddler!, August 25, 2005
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
This tent worked wonders when we took our 13-month old for his first camping trip. There was plenty of room for him to crawl around and play with his toys, even with a Pack-and-Play crib, a full size air mattress, and all our packs. Set-up was pretty easy -- it took around 20 minutes and my husband was able to do most of it by himself. He only needed help getting the rain canopy over the top.

The main downside was that the high ceilings mean that the tent does not warm up from body heat as well as smaller tents would. But I was willing to trade night-time warmth for day-time comfort. Also, a room divider would be a nice addition.

All in all, a great purchase for us!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LIKE IT!, August 8, 2006
By
C. J. Schafer (Millersport, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
The first weekend I used this tent it weathered a big storm with few problems. I was at a race track camping out in the open when the storm came through. The fierce wind blew over other tents around me, I heard men crying out in the night and poles clanging together. This big boy stood tall through the carnage.

The wind blew so hard that a tiny spray of water came through the window zippers that were facing the storm. Of course the side got wet where I let my mattress touch it, just like any other tent. It rained hard all night and eventually some water blew in under the fly and collected on the screen roof giving me a little inside rain by morning.

Keep the fly roped down tight and the tent will do well in a storm.

Problems: 2
People trip over the ropes so flag them for visibility.
Kids and lazy adults go in and out without unzipping the screen door all the way which can result in a bottom tear.

2.0 out of 5 stars Collapsed in Hailstorm, February 24, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
This tent lasted me less than 24 hours. It's nice for fair-weather, but that's what I was expecting based on the weather reports. A hail storm came, and the hail collected on top of the canopy. Because it made the top sag, water was able to collect as well. I had left the campsite and went into town because the storm was getting bad, and when I returned after it cleared up... I discovered that the tent had collapsed. The metal tubing had buckled (at the joints) under the weight of the water/hail.

I still like the tent a lot, how it assembles and such... it's just not hail storm proof...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great design, August 20, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
With dimensions of 12' x 12', this tent has room to spare. All four side panels, an additional two windows per corner, and four panels in the roof can be opened for fresh air, which makes it the ideal tent for warmer weather. The canopy can be used alone as a sun shield or picnic table shelter, but you have to choose between tent and canopy as the same frame is used for both. (The canopy/rain fly goes over the tent as well.) Set-up can be done in about 20 minutes with a partner. I wouldn't recommend putting it up by yourself. The poles are linked together to make it easier, but the directions are not specific when it comes to figuring out which poles go where. (The longest sections go horizontally.) But again, great design almost speaks for itself, and you can figure it out pretty easily if you use common sense. But despite the weak directions, the tent itself is high-quality and lots of fun. For the size, there's no better bargain anywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Our friends call it The Taj..., July 19, 2005
This review is from: Wenger Breithorn Gazebo Tent (Sports)
We love it! Perfect for a pack-n-play and room for my tall husband to easily stand. And we've used the canopy all by itself, which is great! The only drawback is that the tent and canopy can't be used seperately at the same time. Also, a room divider would be nice, but we just hang up a tapestry to give us 2 rooms. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars!
