This review is from: Wenn Schon Nicht Fur Immer Dann Wenigste (Audio CD)
There are some really tuneful songs on this craftsmanlike album. Her attitude is a little bit self-indulgent and precious, but WHAT THE HEY, she's not bad looking. "Nie Wieder" in my opinion is the strongest song on the album, with aching synthesizer riffs at different octaves, oh-so-tastefully dirty guitar, a few additional beats in the measure before the chorus for super pop appeal, the first time I heard this song I was indeed "verliebt, verloren, verbrannt." Also "Schiess die Lichter Aus" is paradox of being a fast danceable song with an anti-fast music, anti-dancing message, so that's cool. "50 Tipps" is a translation of Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave your Lover", not only a translation into German but a translation into a female perspective, which gives a silly feeling to Simon's great list of anonymous male names. The selfish everymen Jack, Stan, Roy, Gus, and Lee become Git, Liz, and Ruth and a few others. So that's enough about Ulla Meinecke, except to say that no German that I know would be caught dead listening to it. All the better?!?!?!
