I ordered the Stanley 62-509 8-3/4-Inch Multi-Bit Ratcheting Screwdriver with 6 Assorted Bits for $11 and I ordered this Wera for $32. That's a lot for a screwdriver but I have to say it is worth every penny. It is incredibly well made. It is not ratcheting like the Stanley but it is still miles ahead in quality and construction. The Stanley stores its bits in the butt of the handle which you have to unscrew. By doing this you can loose the end cap of the Stanley which would mean that you could no longer store the bits. The Wera stores the bits inside the handle as well but there is nothing to loose. You push the butt of the screwdriver and a secret compartment pops open full of bits. You don't have to dump out all the bits to find the one you want like you do on the stanley - they are all snapped in their individual compartments so there is no danger of loosing them. The bits of the Wera also have their sizes printed on the sides. The main shaft of the Wera can be extended so the screw driver is normal length when extended and more compact when retracted. It can also be taken out completely and used in a drill or driver.

Overall, excellent design and construction quality. Feels great in the hand.

I really enjoy using this screwdriver. The shaft feels loose, but it holds. The bit change mechanism is great, seems to know what I want to do.

I've replaced all the bits with Wera's diamond coated bits. The diamond bits grip the screw head significantly better and are a joy to use. The bits fit and work in this screwdriver just as the original bits do.

You know when you get something and you really want to like it, but it just disappoints.

By itself, this tool is an engineering wonder. It slices, dices and makes Julienne Fries (I'm sure it does, somehow). But in the end, it's just a screwdriver.

I highly anticipated getting this, because I have the Wera Kraftform Kompakt Zyklop kit - which I absolutely love (see my review), and because I have some other Wera screwdrivers which are great.

So does it work? Yes it does. It has 6 bits stored cleverly in the handle. The shaft collapses into the tool with the push of a lock ring, or pops out to make a full length screwdriver, or even is completely removable for use in my drill/driver. The bits are very high quality as Wera's are.

So why only 2 stars? Well, after playing around with it for a few minutes, I pulled out my $4.99 Stanley 4 way screwdriver. You know, the kind with two double ended bits on the end of a bayonet blade that can be reversed, giving two sizes of flat blades and two sizes of phillips?

I started comparing them side by side. Size when the Wera is extended is identical. Bit change: faster every time with the 4-way. Stability: 4 way wins; there's a little slop in the bit of my 4-way, more on the Wera. Surely the handle grip on the Wera is way better? Nope: Because they have the hidden bit compartment inside the handle on the Wera, the handle isn't as "grippy" as normal Wera handles. When I used them side by side on a couple long phillips screws in a nearby doorframe, I could get more leverage, and more comfort from the 4-way screwdriver than this Wera.

The driver is comfortable and easy to use.
My only issue is with the bits. The metal is soft. One slotted bit is slightly twisted which is disappointing.
Someone else mentioned this and unfortunately it is true.

Bits can be replaced but it is a little annoying.

This is now the nicest hand tool I own. The attention to detail is phenomenal. This thing was truly engineered. The magnet actually pulls away form the bit when extracting from the "rapidaptor" bit holder. When inserting the bit, the adapter springs back to lock only after a tiny amount of force is applied to the tip of the bit. The bit compartment lid slightly overlaps the the rest of the handle when closed, preventing dirt from entering. The bayonet blade release collar has two distinct positions. First allowing the blade to spring out and second to allow removal.

When I first opened the handle to expose the bits, every bit was inserted with the etching facing the same direction! I would say that this is quality control at it's best. This is definitely not made in China. Actually it's not made in Germany either. It says Made in Czech Republic right on the handle, just above the image of the little guy with safety glasses.

The handle fits my hand perfectly. I have average, medium sided hands. The weight is just right. It's not heavy, but substantial and balanced. The overall feeling is of sturdy quality. The mechanisms are quite tight allowing only a minute amount of wobble in either the extended or retracted positions. The case is of exceptional quality and appears to be built to last. The design is actually embroidered in the nylon.

If you have ever wanted a screwdriver that facilitates the need for a full color instruction manual (included) this would be the tool for you. I found a nice video on YouTube that goes over the features and operation.

In conclusion, I'd have to say that this may be the last screwdriver in this category that I will ever purchase. I can't imagine a more efficient design that allows so many features. I see more Wera tools in my future, starting with a set of their exceptionally constructed bits. How about that Zyklop ratchet?
