Undoubtedly this is one of the best quality tools I have, but it's no where near the size currently pictured (on July 14, 2010). The dimensions noted do seem correct, but the handle is more of a 'fingertip' screwdriver than one to fill the palm of you hand. The bitholder portion is as pictured, and the handle looks the same but is about half the size of the one pictured (again, on July 14, 2010). The handle above the bitholder is about 2 1/2 inches long.

Also of note, it holds bits securely in place, and the bitholder mechanism is a revelation.

EDIT: I've added a picture to indicate size...

EDIT 9/2/2012: As the review has been bundled with the 800-Series screwdrivers, I should note that the original review pertains to the 813R (Wera 05051272002 Kraftform 813 R Hexagon Bitholding Screwdriver, Rapidator Quick-Release Chuck, 1/4" Head, 90mm Blade Length). Also it does appear that the image for the 813R appears correct.

The current Amazon photo is correct but does not really provide a sense of handle scale or size. I meaured the overall length as 3.65" long including the bit holder with a maximum handle diameter of about .84".

An excellent buy as it costs less than the stand alone version of the Wera bit holder that is part of this handle. I wanted a good quality small handle to use along with the Wiha Microbit 1/4" Drive Power Tool Adapter, Wiha P/N 7110 M.

The combination provides a better handle option than the standard Wiha Microbit 4mm bit handles and holders for many uses IMO while the handle is small enough so that it makes overtorquing of the small 4mm bits less likely than if using a larger handle. Also good for use with smaller point 1/4" hex bits such as small Torx, Hex and 0 size Philips bits and their associated small fasteners.

The Wera Rapidaptor bit holder that is part of this handle is the most convenient quick release one hand bit holder tht I have found. Bit removal is totally a one handed operation and new bits can be easily inserted whether the holder is in the open or closed position. Simple and idiot proof and it will hold ANY 1/4" hex shank bit whether it has retaining notches or a machined groove or just a smooth hex shank. As I said pretty much idiot proof.

The only way to know that this is a "bayonet" feature Wera screwdriver is from the photos which show the bit holder in both the fully inserted and extended positions. No where in the listing is this feature made clear. The same is true of the Wera web site description though. Also note that the quick release bit holder assembly is removeable from the handle and can be used in other 1/4" hex driver handles if desired. It is even available on Amazon as a separate item. It is the Wera 889/4 R bit holder.

The bit holder when extended increases the overall length of the driver by about 45mm or just under 2". This is handy in situations where more hand clearance is needed.

Overall typical Wera German quality at a also typical German premium price but you get what you pay for when it comes to tools I have generally found.

I absolutely love this little screwdriver. The item as a whole is 3 1/2" long which makes it perfect for those cramped situations where space and freedom of movement are limited (while under the car, for example). The bit-holding mechanism is as tough as they come and allows for no play once the bit is locked in. Plus, the bit-holder has a plastic sleeve that spins freely, thus you won't have to loosen your grip with one hand each time you turn with the other hand. This tool is truly an innovation and should be in every professional/home mechanic's tool box. If only American tool manufacturers were this inventive.

For all the reviews that this tool is too small, read up. All these reviews are for the 800 series. A series is just that, not all have the same size handle. It doesn't help that several of the pictures do not accurately show the size. I bought the 829 and it has a normal size handle and works fabulous. It's basically a 392, but with a solid shaft vs the 392 flex shaft. As for sizing, the 829 is about 1 1/4" diameter at the largest part of the handle, and 98mm long handle. Plenty big enough to use for an everyday driver.
To recap some sizing,
811 handle 54mm long.
816r handle 119mm long.
829 handle 98mm long
812 handle 112mm long
817r handle 133mm long
813r handle 90mm long.
Hope this helps, I would assume most the complaints on size are buying the 813 which is much smaller.

This model, the 813 R, is basically just slightly bigger than a precision screwdriver of the type used for watches and small electronics. The bit holder is really the best of its kind I have ever seen. I liked it so much I got the full size version of this screwdriver, I think it is called the Kraftform Compact, which has a belt pouch. You can insert a bit into the holder even if the locking sleeve is in the locked position, and when you pull the sleeve up to release the bit, it pulls it off of the magnet so that it is very easy to remove. If you pull the sleeve quickly, it will even pop the bit completely out of the chuck. The tip of the chuck has a magnet in it so that when removing a screw in cramped quarters it will just stick to the bit, allowing you to gently remove it without having to grab the screw.
