5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Norwegian Black Metal!!!!, August 23, 2006

This review is from: We're Going To Hollywood for This: Live Perversions (DVD)
This DVD packs one hell of a punch, It's worth every penny. The video and audio quality are superb and the main concert has many great classic songs. The main concert is packed with all the Satanic imagery you would come to expect from this band. Blaspheming a plenty. The large, nude, dancing chicks made the concert that much more fun. This is no cheap release, the bonus features section is packed with all sorts of goodies including extra concert footage from Wacken. This is one hell of a Black Metal release. Long live Norway!

5.0 out of 5 stars Carpathian Forest - We're Going To Hollywood For This Live Perversions DVD, September 13, 2011
This review is from: We're Going To Hollywood for This: Live Perversions (DVD)
Carpathian Forest's 2004 We're Going To Hollywood For This-Live Perversions DVD (the title being a play on the title of their compilation album We're Going to Hell for This) is a fairly extensive and interesting release from the Norwegian black metal band Carpathian Forest.

The main feature, a 19 track (15 of which are proper songs) indoor concert is where you will find the meat of the set. This is very professionally filmed and recorded set, with very good sound, camera work and editing. The recording quality and sound mix are superb, both in stereo and in 5.1.

The set list is fairly balanced and represented, and seamlessly mixes (at the time) newer material with the older classics well, blending their punkier side, their symphonic side and their straight up metal side rather well indeed.

The band play on a large stage with great lighting, occasional smoke and pyro, banners in front of a sizeable and enthusiastic crowd. Their own actual performance is pretty much flawless, and visually impressive (as long as you don't mind their obese bass player playing in a thong and the intermittent appearance of two overweight middle aged strippers.) The overall quality of the show is really high considering the size of Carpathian forest and puts the DVDs of many larger bands to shame.

Additionally; there is a less professional but welcome additional live outdoor set from Wacken Open Air Festival 2003, featuring eight tracks that is definitely worth a few viewings.

The extras include a five minute interview with Nattlefrost and the dancers, an amusingly written text based biography, all sorts of image gallerys (now defunct with the invention of wikipedia and google images) and even the option just to view their logo on screen because, you know... that's important !?

Additionally; as well as all the video content there is a whole host of audio content on the DVD. There are eight bonus audio tracks from demos ranging as far back as 1999, the track listing is `Nostalgia,' `Pierced Genitalia,' `Third Attempt,' `The Swordsmen,' `Dodsangst,' `Black Shining Leather,' `The Northern Hemisphere,' and `Mask Of The Slave.'

This demo content is featured in special audio menus, as well as a live audio rendition of `He's Turning Blue,' and Pre-Production demos of six tracks from their excellent Defending The Throne Of Evil album, and even two tracks from their precursor band Grimm (from 1993) and finally World Destroyer 2000 which features three band members.

Overall, We're Going To Hollywood For This is an incredible all-stops-pulled-out kind of release, that every Carpathian Forest fan should own and which would serve as a perfect introduction to the band, their various musical styles, attitude and particular sense of humour. It is packed full of additional content and the main concert is of a very high standard indeed, I highly recommend anyone with an interest in the band to pick up a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible DVD for Carpathian Fornicators, November 22, 2007

If you like CF, you'll love this DVD. It has a 19 track concert which is incredible and is done with amazing audio. I think there are about 5 or 6 cameras at the show that do some great shots. It also has 6 live bootlegs. A featurette on recording Defending the Throne of Evil. It also has their performance from WACKEN 03. It is amazing (despite Nattefrost being stoned out of his mind). Bonus auido tracks. And some more live performances. It is great and is like 3 or 4 hours long so youll get plenty of use out of it. A must have for a true CF fan

not many bands have shown this much evil for so many years. have been a big fan of theirs for many, many years. they are truly evil people- thru and thru. the outdoor footage is truly mind blowing. wish they had included another outdoor concert. they really feel at home playing outdoors, in front of mega thousands of sick fans. hope they grow into a eviler, and much sicker band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD., July 17, 2008
This review is from: We're Going To Hollywood for This: Live Perversions (DVD)
We're here from Norway, and we're here to represent Satan," Nattefrost explains before they play "Bloodcleansing." At this point I was getting kind of sick of hearing him say something about "Norwegian Black Metal" before every song. We know. Shut up about it already. The giant conical spikes on his and Vrangsinn's gauntlets look incredibly stupid, not that it's possible to really focus on the gauntlets when the camera keeps focusing on Vrangsinn's rather sizeable backside, clad only in a g-string and some chains. Speaking of sizeable, there are also two topless "dancers" who appear during a couple of songs, on of whom is well into her senior citizenship and sort of reminds me of Edith Massey.

But nevermind all of that. This DVD is rare thing: a watchable live DVD. Watchable if you like CF and aren't offended by corpulent nearly-naked people, that is. There are sounding pretty good here. Songs include "Sadomasochistic," "It's Darker than you think," "Skjend hans lik," "Morbid fascination of Death" and several more. Good choice of songs, good audio and video quality, good DVD.

There are all sorts of extras on the disc also, some audio, some extra videoclips, desktop wallpapers, photo gallery, an interview with Nattefrost (worth watching just to see the dancers dressed in normal clothes). In fact, the only negative things I have to say about this involve some of the extras that have text on them are too small to actually read. Recently I went back and watched the slideshow. For photos of Nattefrost naked and covered in his own ecrement in his bathtub, I refer you to Peter Beste's book, 'True Norwegian Black Metal,' and the CD booklets for NF's solo CDs. For photos of his actual turds (and vomit, and various other bodily fluids, and him vomiting onto a plate full of various fluids already), look no further than the slideshow on this disc. If you don't want to see any of that, I recommend not watching the slideshow, especially not while eating. The Wacken footage is pretty good though.
