This review is from: We're Going to Win This Thing: The Shocking Frame-up of a Mafia Crime Buster (Hardcover)
I just finished We're Going to Win This Thing, and I literally could not put it down (Kindled it on Friday; finished it on Saturday.) R. Lindley DeVecchio and Charles Brandt did an outstanding job of portraying the frame-up perpetrated against FBI Supervisor DeVecchio by the Brooklyn DA's office, jaded FBI Special Agent Favo, mob moll Linda Spiro and other mob miscreants. This well written and documented story relates how Mob Buster DeVecchio was crucified by a conspiracy of mob creeps, politically motivated prosecutors and other denizens of a corrupt system. This book gave me the chills to think that this could happen to anyone, let alone a well respected, dedicated and loyal FBI Special Agent such Mr. DeVecchio.

I hope that everyone who reads this page turner, stands up against this injustice perpetrated against Mr. DeVecchio. What really made my blood boil was when I read that the fools (I am being kind here) who helped fabricate the case against an innnocent man and started his almost lynching were honored by FBI Director Mueller for their "integrity." What a joke. My hat is off to the attorneys who defended Mr. DeVecchio and the American Judicial system who saw through this frame-up. Buy this book, you will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars As the attorney for the co-defendant in this case, this book was dead on, March 30, 2011

I had the greatest experience in my career when I was the attorney for the co-defendant John Sinagra in this case. My client was also wrongfully charged with one of the murders and he sat in prison for over a year until he was freed when the case was dismissed. I had the privilege of working alongside Douglas Grover and Mark Bederow and Mr. DeVecchio, who I consider my friends for life. The book is dead on and does mention my case at the end of the book. It is a must read as a real life true story thriller and the book fairly portrays what occurred. I was honored to come to know and be surrounded by some of the finest F.B.I. agents I have ever known.

Unlike the first reviewer, I picked this up expecting something interesting and was very disappointed. It took me almost two weeks to work through this book. The way the author jumps around with names and dates it is very hard to read much less follow or understand. He tells so many stories that you are never sure of what his point was or if there even was one. He keeps referencing this "championship season" but never explains what it was or what made it so special except that he was a part of it. His attacks on the DA office and FBI agents comes across so bitterly it is hard to feel for the author. It reads as though it was an assignment from a therapist for the author to work through his issues. I can't imagine what this man has been through but not so sure it is a good topic for a book. I didn't think it is a very interesting read and wished I could get my money back. There are so many other interesting mafia books out there to spend your time and money on....would pass on this twenty year old story.

I received this from Amazon.com, and just finished reading the book "We're Going To Win This Thing" by Lin DeVecchio and to say it left me with bitter feelings would be an understatement. I was so disgusted reading about both FBI Agents and Officer's of the Court and of a prejudicial Judge that I wanted to vent to them personally but that would be impractical and legally unwise.

In a prior life, I have witnessed treachery and duplicity but never on a level such as was outlined in DeVecchio's revealing book. I have seen criminals with greater integrity than a couple of the FBI Agents that worked for DeVecchio in the New York Office of the FBI.

For the uninitiated who read this book, the time line may seem confusing but this whole magilla of a persecution against the author can not be laid out in a easy chronology of events. Working with informants is both a dangerous as well as a most rewarding experience. In this case the informant was long dead and therefore could never be interviewed in connection with the integrity issues orbiting DeVecchio.. Gregory Scarpa for all the viciousness he represented in his chosen life, I believe was a man of honor and would have come to DeVecchio's assistance with trumpets blaring. But the kind of life Scarpa lived, he surrounded himself with people he would have instantly "wacked" if they ever tried this kind of treachery that DeVechioo suffered at the hands of his friends.

DeVecchio's traitors within the FBI have "skated" for now but these individuals have to live with themselves and face their maker one day.

When you read this book, please keep an open mind to all the good and great things agents like DeVecchio did and continue to do for this country. Like all societies, there are always a couple of rotten apples that stir the waters so that things are not quite clear. DeVecchio was investigated by the best law enforcement organization in the world and it was found that the initial allegation by a treacherous and jealous agent were with out merit. His murder trial was a travesty of the highest order but like in most cases the truth always wins.

I highly recommend reading this book. It is a fast read but emotionally disturbing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lin DeVecchio's character stands out, March 29, 2011
This review is from: We're Going to Win This Thing: The Shocking Frame-up of a Mafia Crime Buster (Hardcover)
Just finished Lin DeVechio's account of the horror he was put through with a trial for crimes he did not commit. The book is well written and reveals the workings of crime fighting law enforcement. It also makes one appreciate the character of DeVecchio who stood his ground and came out of this with a clean record and the support of his peers. This is a great book well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars "We're Going To Win This Thing", March 16, 2011
This review is from: We're Going to Win This Thing: The Shocking Frame-up of a Mafia Crime Buster (Hardcover)
Fully agree with reviewer Fleisher. A frightening, eye opening read for most anyone. A "must read" for anyone in, or contemplating, a career in Law enforcement or the criminal justice system. Illustrative beyond the teaching of any training unit or professor,it exposes the existence of loyalty and treachery - side by side- not just among the bad guys but right there in the midst of our premier criminal investigators and prosecutors alike. Greed, fueled by unsated egos, visions of fame & fortune stir systemic corruption in a now tainted DA's office and nearly destroy the life and financial security of a legendary FBI agent, long retired, whose innocence on the reintroduced allegations was established 10 years earlier.

Yanked out of retirement, indicted, and arrested, Lin DeVecchio, one of the FBI's foremost experts on La Cosa Nostra, and the handling of top informants of that ilk, is faced with defending himself once again - not only against 4 bogus murder charges pressed by a vindictive DA with his nose out of joint, and his starry-eyed but dangerous assistant - but also against ambitious and cunning men from within his own service. As DeVecchio writes, you will feel his emotions - primarily anger and disgust - as he details the horrific allegations and their sources, the unbearable labeling by the press of him as an "agent of death", and the effects on his health, his family, and his future. And then, vindicated by two "stand-up" members of the press, left with monumental legal bills, and seeking to restore his reputation,he is hung out to dry by the government he served so well. However, you will read of(and question the judgment of those involved) the awards and plumb assignments given his treacherous tormentors, and will be angered to learn the biased and unfounded actions of his prosecutors continue to surface in other cases. You will, as the book does, cry out for justice.

Thank God for men like Doug Grover and Mark Bedderow (his attorneys) and for the loyal band of former agents who stood with him all the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars "We're Going to Win this Thing" a Law Enforcement Tragedy, March 20, 2011

This review is from: We're Going to Win This Thing: The Shocking Frame-up of a Mafia Crime Buster (Hardcover)
I just finished "We're going to win this thing" and can not begin to imgaine the frustration and devastation of SSA Lin Devecchio from this nightmare. I kept wondering what hapened to the "Integrity" as in fidelity, bravery and integrity of the FBI that the Bureau could actually reward the Agent that negatively affected so many peoples lives just for his own ambitions on baseless allegations. What is the FBI's responsibility to NYPD Det. Joe Simone who was arrested, lost his reputation and pension as a result of baseless "feelings?" Thoughout history when a name, location or incident is mentioned everyone knows what is meant. I feel that the FBI now has such a name in their history. This is a must read, especially for the brothers and sisters in law enforcement, it could happen to you. If you have high blood pressure this could send you over the top. As a retired law enforcement officer with 35 years of service I would like to appologize to Lin for what he went through from an agency that he devoted his life to.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of family history; few facts about trial, April 14, 2011
This review is from: We're Going to Win This Thing: The Shocking Frame-up of a Mafia Crime Buster (Hardcover)
I read DeVecchio's book after first reading Rodney Stich's book, Crimes of the FBI-DOJ, Mafia, and al Qaeda. In that book by former federal agent Rodney Stich, he provides facts that show an entirely different and alarming scenario. These facts include FBI documents, letters, and years of data provided to Stich by the son of the Mafia capo with whom DeVecchio allegedly engaged in corrupt activities. Additional information was provided to Stich over the years by a highly decorated Vietnam war hero and former FBI agent who worked under DeVecchio. The facts provided in Stich's book reveal the actions by high-level Department of Justice officials seeking to protect DeVecchio from murder charges by withholding advance information on several major terrorist attacks provided to FBI agents by Gregory Scapra, Jr. Scarpa obtained the advance information directly from al Qaeda's primary bomber, Ramzi Yousef. That advance information was kept secret by higher Department of Justice officials because of a need to discredit the testimony that he was scheduled to provide in murder trials about DeVecchio's involvement in several murders with Scarpa Jr.'s father. That scheme reportedly had catastrophic consequences as the series of al Qaeda attacks did occur.

2.0 out of 5 stars The rest of the DeVecchio story, April 13, 2011

This review is from: We're Going to Win This Thing: The Shocking Frame-up of a Mafia Crime Buster (Hardcover)
The other side of the DeVecchio story is described in the book, Crimes of the FBI-DOJ, Mafia, and al Qaeda, written by corruption-exposing whistleblower Rodney Stich.

The book written by DeVecchio leaves out massive amount of evidence that, if recognized by thinking people, would show consequences of the DeVecchio-Scarpa matter far beyond anyone's comprehension,

The other book that tells the REAL story behind the DeVecchio matter is written with years of input from Gregory Scarpa, Jr. and a former highly decorated Vietnam helicoppter pilot, Richard Taus, an FBI agent working under FBI supervisor DeVecchio. The intrige described in that book is beyond the possible comprehension of virtually anyone. It is an ugly story about major misconduct in the federal government, and the consequences of high level Deparment of Justice personnel--and others--covering up for the DeVecchio matter. It is an ugly story.

A web site tells more of the story: [..],along with still another book, History of Aviation Disasters: 1950 to 9/11.
