Lots of details - Excellent and true-to-life!,
By A Customer
This review is from: We're Pregnant! (Paperback)
I just finished reading We're Pregnant! and I loved it. This is the first book I read that gave me a true-to-life, honest-to-goodness idea of what I might feel like, look like and go through during my pregnancy. The author's description of her labor and delivery left me feeling like I had just given birth - I feel much more prepared now for my own delivery. The comments from the father-to-be were often funny and I found both myself and my husband laughing outloud in many places. This book is great for anyone who wants to know what the whole pregnancy, delivery and new parent experience is all about. Expecting fathers will enjoy it too.

Charming and original, this book is not like most pregnancy books you'll read. Instead of clinical information that most books provide, this is more of a pregnancy diary shared by a regular couple. What I liked most about this book was reading about someone else's pregnancy story (from trying to conceive to the beginning of parenthood) and finding out how similar my experiences were to those of the authors. Somehow it brought me great comfort to know that I was not the only woman who gained too much weight, insisted my husband put his hand on my belly every time our baby so much as wiggled, and was disappointed that my in-laws didn't do back-flips when we announced that I was pregnant. Most of this diary-type chronicle is written by the expectant Mother, but the husband shared his thoughts enough times to give us a realistic idea about what goes on in the minds and hearts of expectant fathers. As I was reading this book I often laughed out loud and felt compelled to share what I had just read to my husband knowing that he would appreciate what the father-to-be was experiencing. Being pregnant is the most phenomenal experience two people in love can experience. However, there are times when we question if what we are going through is normal. Reading "We're Pregnant" reassured me that not only am I normal, but in very good company.

I wish this couple lived next door...,
By Susan (Ruskin, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: We're Pregnant! (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed We're Pregnant!. The couple who wrote the book are obviously real people who have a great relationship and looked forward to being parents. They candidly describe their thoughts, feelings and concerns during their pregnancy and include a lot of factual information about the pregnancy and birth process too. Many of the issues they discuss - such as raging hormones, the physical changes she is experiencing and the changes in their relationship - were exactly the same things my husband and I were dealing with during our pregnancy. We read the book together and both felt as though we were talking to our best friends about their pregnancy experience. I wish this couple live next door because now that our baby is here, I have a lot more questions I would like to ask them! We're Pregnant's story format is enjoyable and entertaining. I highly recommend this book to all expectant parents as well as those who have already had children or are thinking about starting a family. Thumbs up for We're Pregnant!

Excellent - Just what I was looking for,

We're Pregnant! is an excellent book for anyone who is expecting or thinking about getting pregnant. Once you've read the "fact-oriented" books like What to Expect and The Pregnancy Book, you will enjoy the change of pace in We're Pregnant!. It follows a couple as they go through their pregnancy - from conception to finding out their pregnant, from morning sickness to getting huge, all the way through a detailed and very informative account of their delivery and their first few days as new parents. Being pregnant and delivering a baby is not something you get to practice so the best way to know what to expect is to listen to your best friend and her husband tell you what it was really like - that's just what this couple does. My husband enjoyed this book as much as I did - and that's not something I can say about many pregnancy books. If you really want to know what to expect, I suggest you read We're Pregnant! When you finish, you will feel as though you have been through the whole process yourself.

This book is a friend - indeed,
By Lynda Goldman (Montreal, Quebec Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: We're Pregnant! (Paperback)
This book is quick and easy to read, and gives so much. It's like going through a pregancy with your best friend, who is just a little ahead of you. I would have loved to have this book when I was pregnant, and was desperate to get my hands on anything I could to guide me through these uncharted waters. Now, having been through the experience, I could relate to so much about what the authors went through. I even laughed out loud at parts. Although, as Cindy states, every pregnancy is unique, any expecting couple can relate to the emotional highs and lows of a first pregnancy, and the intimite journey of this couple. If you are expecting, I highly recommend this book. If you know anyone having a baby, it's a wonderful gift that they will definitely appreciate.

A wonderfully candid narrative of one couple's pregnancy.,

FINALLY, a pregnancy book written from both the mother and father's point of view!! This was, by far, the best pregnancy book that I have found. My husband and I read "We're Pregnant" when I was 8.5 months pregnant. Read it and then give it to your husband to read. Cindy and Eugene Kappler each describe their thoughts and feelings during the nine months of pending parenthood. Eugene's thoughts are especially funny and engaging. I found the candid descriptions of the labor experience very detailed and comforting. Thanks Cindy for vicariously holding my hand through my last months of pregnancy. Reading your book was like having a big sister walk me through the often intimidating pregnancy process!! I just wish I would have read your book earlier!

I was so grateful to come upon "We're Pregnant!" First I devoured the personal and heart-felt words of Cindy and Eugene Kappler, and now my husband is reading the book. This is the first pregnancy book that I have been able to get him to read, and he is fascinated, both by Cindy's descriptions of how she feels, but also by Eugene's descriptions of how he felt and reacted to Cindy's first pregnancy and birth. By the time Cindy describes her labor and delivery of her daughter, you feel like you know the Kapplers personally. I love their open and honest approach and their conversational writing style. This is not a big, scary pregnancy book filled with all the details on every possible thing that could go wrong. There are technical facts, but they are only included to help the reader understand what was happening to Cindy and Eugene. I have read way too many books on pregnancy that have left me terrified, and this is the first one that left me feeling like everything was going to work out, and I will be able to handle labor and delivery. I am also glad that I discovered this book before my pregnacny, and now I plan to re-read it as I reach each new milestone in the next nine months.

What book did the other reviewers read? That is a real waste of money, it is boring, there is no real information, the thoughts of the father are usually exactly the same as the mothers and both seem to have no idea what is going on. I am really happy that I do not have a colleage who announces her pregnancy over the loudspeaker system and I can understand her doctor in not being to excited about a woman who wants to become pregnant but does not know how to do a home pregnancy test. So much for intelligence. She also gains far to much weight, resulting in a difficult birth, a connection she never, ever sees. I just got angry in having spent my money on that.

The most fun that you'll have reading about pregnancy.,
By Jennifer (Western suburbs of Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

I had so much fun reading this book. It is the best (story) book about pregnancy that you can find. Cindy and Eugene are down to earth people that you start to like on page one. This is a book that I will recommend to friends that are expecting for years to come. In this book she really makes you feel like she is your friend and that you are there with her throughout the entire pregnancy. Thanks Cindy, for telling us what others won't
