5.0 out of 5 stars spaced out, December 27, 2003
This review is from: We're Standing at the Cross Road (Audio CD)
These Japanese renditions show what really can be done to Robert Johnson's songs today. A variety of interpretations ranging from traditional acoutic guitar or piano to utterly freaked-out echo- and feedback guitar exercises. This album also delivers interesting jazzrock and even jugband interpretations. Alongside a further Japanese compilation ('Up Jumped The Devil'), published by the same company (PCD 5806), which even covers the electronic side of Robert Johnson renditions, this CD is nothing for purists. But anybody who is fed up with all of today's guitar bards trying to sound exactly like Robert Johnson 65 years ago, this album is a really outstanding treat.
