PreSchool-Grade 2-- Simple, colorful cartoon-style illustrations depict the varied activities shared by a child and his grandparents in these two titles. The warmth and affection between child and grandparent is evident, but the texts are repetitive and sentimental. These offerings are less successful than Ackerman's Song and Dance Man (Knopf, 1988), Rockwell's When I Go Visiting (Macmillan, 1984), Chorao's Kevin's Grandma (Dutton, 1975), and Schertle's William and Grandpa (Lothrop, 1989). P. K. Hallinan has been writing and illustrating books for children for more than 35 years. He writes inspirational stories about holidays, relationships, and life values. In addition to being a prolific author and illustrator, P. K. is an ordained minister and a well-known school speaker

More About the Author
P.K. Hallinan began writing children's books 35 years ago when his wife asked him to make a book for their two young sons as a Christmas gift. He did, and the feedback he got from friends and neighbors inspired him to write more books. Since then, P.K. has written and illustrated 89 children's books and has sold more than 8,000,000 copies worldwide.
P.K. was born in Los Angeles in 1944 and spent his youth primarily in Bethesda, Maryland and in the San Fernando Valley. Although P.K. never studied art, his disappointment with the work of the artist assigned to illustrate his first book, motivated him to learn to draw. He has been illustrating his own books ever since.
"If I did any one thing right," says P.K., "I decided very early on to write books that help children and parents alike have better and happier lives. That decision has kept many of my books in-print for more than 25 years, because the values I teach are timeless."
P.K. is also an ordained minister and pastors his own small church, Joy Chapel, in Ashland, Oregon. He lives with his wife, Jeanne, in the mountains above Ashland and also at the beach, in Brookings, Oregon.

Grandparents raising Grandchildren,

Raising a grandchild poses many hurddles. One of them is finding books that address the situation of Grandparent as Parent. Thankfully, this beautiful story answers that need. Unlike the standard fare of books like Runaway Bunny, the caregiver in this story is the Grandmother, not the mother. My Grandaughter loved to hear about a child living with his Grandma, and all the fun they have together.

I gave this book to my mom for mother's day. I was hoping that she would enjoy reading it to my son, her grandson. It has a wonderful little story of all the things grandmas can do with their grandchildren. It even gave her ideas! She loves it and he loves to hear her read it. P.K. Hallinan writes wonderful stories.

P.K. Hallinan has a way with words and pictures. We bought many of these books over the years, but this one will always hold a special place in my son's heart. We lost Grandma when he was 5, but he'll always have this book that reminds him of the happy times they shared before she got sick.
