"Were" to start learning about Lycanthropy, April 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Werewolf (VHS Tape)
Only days ago I purchased the Creatures Fantastic VHS video "Werewolf". The first thing I noticed upon viewing this tape was the wonderful reenacted scenes of werewolf legend, lore and fact and colorful video illustrating that brought the subject to life though unfortunetly for only 30 mins. running time. I would say for any werewolf fan this video is a must especially for the price Amazon.com provides, or for those who simply would like an overview glimpse of the topic of werewolves...be warned though the video is of basic detail on it's discussions and tends to be sided towards only focusing on werewolves as creatures of evil and not exploring all apspects of their myth to include some good aspects to their lore. In conclusion to my review though in one purchaser's opinion this video isn't a waste, nor a blockbuster and does hold the interest well in video content. Don't take my word for it though check it out if your interested!

Something to Howl about...., July 6, 2003
This review is from: Werewolf (VHS Tape)
I enjoyed listening to Eyewitness: Werewolf, especially the excellent cinematography, such as the scenes at the amusement park and the reenactment of Beauty and the Beast, complete with ending transformation scene. The short scenes of wolves in the woods were beautiful and well portrayed.
I was disappointed however, that the video seemed so negative. Not all wolves in legends are bad...There are several myths and legends of wolves adopting children (think Romulus and Remus), as well as wolves and the role of Coyote as trickster, and lets not forget Fenris, of Norse Legend. The scriptwriter's surmise that wolves has historically been universally feared and hated is just not true.
Overall, this was a decent film, but I think it focused too much on the negative aspects of wolves for my tastes. A more balanced portrayal of the mythical aspects of wolves in legend and lore would have earned it another star. An example of this would be: Eyewitness Horse, which covers the gamut of horse legends from the evil kelpie to the mythical unicorn.
Still, this is a decent flick if you are a fan of the EW series. I would suggest this video for mature teenagers and adults. Several depictions of graphic violence and mature themes might frighten youngsters.
