5.0 out of 5 stars Gifted writer gives us werewolves beyond belief!
Tom Cardamone has taken the world of werewolves, mythology and Central Park and woven together a descriptive narrative like nothing I could imagine!
His writing has taken a werewolf story to another level.
eg."his black velvet cloak clung to him like the wings of a thirsty bat" and "the silt of an undefined fear rose to cloak his vision in an opaque darkness"...

This review is from: The Werewolves of Central Park (Paperback)
In a subgenre filled to in-capacity by far from skilled lady-authors who appear to be writing exclusively for undemanding queer-romance-loving lady readers this novella distinguishes itself first of all for the breath of refreshingly sexy air aimed at gay-male readers:

erotica as I mean it: sexy, rough, carnal, carefree but not devoid of occasional and sober glimpses of understated romance.

Extreme erotica too, easily bordering the zoofilia (bestiality) too therefore sensitive readers beware.

Set in a New York called New Amsterdam peopled by many kinds of magical creatures which live side by side with humans the plot meshes werewolf stories with tales from the fae fiction.

Mr Cardamone builds up an all-male sexual system, rather permeableto humans infact, where each creature has quite a pre-ordained role to play.

While I used to think that fauns and satyrs were exactly the same thing -not here- the system is varied and self contained allowing the author a rather wide range of sexual possibilities.

To exploit them the narrative concentrates on a limited number or representatives (even one) of the species and constantly shift pov constantly refreshing the sexual tension.

Even if all is not well -I would have preferred a different approach to many pages and situations- the writing is good, groomed and sexy.

I think I will not be re-reading it a second time but it has been a couple hours fun.

Tom Cardamone has taken the world of werewolves, mythology and Central Park and woven together a descriptive narrative like nothing I could imagine!

His writing has taken a werewolf story to another level.

eg."his black velvet cloak clung to him like the wings of a thirsty bat" and "the silt of an undefined fear rose to cloak his vision in an opaque darkness" and "the light from the window above already shone like that of a distant star...he wished to remain in it's orbit forever."

A beautiful combination of words.

New York city is also part Faery Land and is called New Amerstdam which also gives it a surreal feel. Satrys, centaurs, fauns,Pluto, warlocks and of course our randy sexually charged werewolves.

It is also an erotic story of Central Park at night when men transform into werewolves to hunt frolicking fauns,(who are always young men from the thighs up). Theirs is a mutually seductive and erotic world of hunter and prey, where werewolves look for fauns to please their animalistic sexual desires; and fauns crave it.

We also follow some couples as they struggle through a difficult and unforgiving life.

The characters are sexy,horny,erotic.

When so many authors tend to grind out the same story it is so refreshing to read something original from a truly creative and fertile imagination. The mind of Cardamone has produced an extraordinary work of fiction that was my pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sex and more sex, but also romance and a great new take on things, January 21, 2009

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen so much sex packed so densely in a novel while still making room for story, but WWOCP pulls it off well, with a few reservations.

The good news first. The author fills the story with mythical creatures (werewolves, centaurs, fauns, etc.) and gives them a place in society. Mix in some interesting and fresh ideas on how they come to be what they are (in some cases, you'll have to read it). Then take a completely gloves-off approach to sex among them, with no shying away from the physical realities of what they are. For example, a centaur has a horse's body. What they've got between their legs is what a horse has. Werewolf physiology seems to very in description from individual to individual, but again there's no avoiding that this is a human/animal mix. Borderline bestiality to some, maybe, but it's not over to top.

I love the idea that fauns are drawn to Central Park to be willingly hunted down and sexually ravaged by the werewolves (they don't kill them). Yet these are savage werewolves, so the author does a very nice job of describing the foreboding atmosphere, how the fauns must toe the line and what dangers to look out for. The werewolves are feral and demanding, but for once its a fantastic pleasure to see them doing something other than eating people - having gay sex with them! Yes!

My only complaints on the sexual side of things is that: One, the intimate scenes with the centaur are confusing. You read and can't figure out what position they're in or how they're doing what they're doing. Two, fauns excepted, the author has the same, tired old boring size queen affliction. Can't anyone in a story have an average size penis? Must everyone be described as huge?

There is also some genuine romance between other characters. Overall, each character is pretty well fleshed out.

The only real flaw to the plot is that there really isn't one. You follow characters as they progress through the story, but there isn't a strong central thread that ties all their lives together, no common antagonist, and no real resolution. Yes, each character comes to some kind of completion, so there aren't many loose threads, it's just a different kind of story. If you think of it as a series of vignettes about various characters woven together within the reality's framework, it will satisfy on that level. If you're looking for an adventure with a clear climax, again, it's not that kind of story. Not unsatisfying by any means, just not your typical plot structure.

Of course, it's always back to the sex with this story. It's jam-packed with mythical creature action, exactly what I've been looking for and finally found. If you're tired of werewolf or other mythical creature stories where the characters always have sex in human form, or are just looking for another take on things, this is a fantastic read. Get it right away!

3.0 out of 5 stars werewolves and ovid and porn, oh my!, November 6, 2007
This review is from: The Werewolves of Central Park (Paperback)
Gleefully slapping together quotes from the Roman classics (Ovid, Virgil, Horace) with some very vivid gay sex scenes, "the Werewolves of Central Park" effectively reminds us of queer smut's proud heritage. Oh, and it reminds us that the western lit canon is actually really dirty. Oh, and it has werewolves. You really can't go wrong.
