5.0 out of 5 stars Super Attic Ladder
I got this attic ladder on line, cuz the price was right along with free shipping, and far better than anything the Home Depot or Lowes had to offer. My son and I installed it in a couple hours and it works just fine.

I was looking for an attic ladder that would handle a 10' ceiling. Considered the A2210 & AL2210. 3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, But has a Few Warts, February 15, 2010
I was looking for an attic ladder that would handle a 10' ceiling. Considered the A2210 & AL2210. After calling Werner, learned that the AL2210 is the aluminum version of what was previously a steel ladder. It includes dampers/spring return, but is made overseas. A2210 has springs only, but made in U.S. Ordered the A2210 (U.S. made). The ladder itself is sturdy; frame is a little light but satisfactory. Instructions have you install a couple of temporary cleats on the ceiling at the ends of the rough opening -- nail/screw into headers. They recommended extending just enough to catch the ladder frame, but not the thin plywood door. This could easily result in the entire unit falling while you are attempting to attach the frame to the joists and headers. I nailed the cleats so they were closer together, ensuring the unit wouldn't fall during construction. You need to remove the springs, so that you can open the door while placing on the cleats. I did it alone -- definitely a handful. Recommend two people minimum for the setting. When squared up and permanently installed using screws and shims, the door didn't align properly when closed. Had to loosen four nuts on the piano hinge, and adjust. Do not attempt to place the unit on the cleats with the springs attached and the door open -- it can snap closed and cause significant damage to you and the unit. This is experience speaking! Now that unit is installed and adjusted, it is fine. Very stiff unit that is quite secure. Steps are a little close to the plywood door, making footing a little dicey. Also, with a ten foot ceiling, you need to be tall (5' 8" or more) and relatively strong to rotate the second and third ladder segments after swinging the door down from the ceiling. One note in summary -- be careful, and use enough people during installation.

This review is from: Werner A2208 300-Pound Duty Rating Aluminum Folding Attic Ladder, 8-Foot (Tools & Home Improvement)
Werner's ladder is a high-quality product. Much sturdier than the wooden folding ladders. However, the wood access panel attached to the ladder is cheaper quality wood, which easily frays. Also, it notes that the ladder is for spaces from 7'-0" to 8'-5". My floor to ceiling is 7'-8" and did not fit as the instructions directed. I had to trim the aluminum legs down so the ladder properly extends.

High quality, solid, durable, secure, safe and easy to install. Much higher quality than the wooden versions. Would hate to survive the trek into my attic without it!!

This review is from: Werner A2208 300-Pound Duty Rating Aluminum Folding Attic Ladder, 8-Foot (Tools & Home Improvement)
My stepfather and I ripped out my previous wood ladder setup (which he took for himself - people helping people, it's powerful stuff) and installed this one in a matter of an hour. I need to trim the legs a tiny bit to be gap free but that will be maybe 2 minutes of work with some snips. I really like the ease with which the ladder comes down and goes back up. My old unit would shoot back up when trying to put the ladder in the closed position.
Definitely worth the money and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone needing an attic ladder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Ladder, April 20, 2009

I bought this ladder at Lowes for $185.00 and found it to be a great product. I was sceptical seeing it was made in China but it is very well built. The instructions were easy to follow and there is a online video that walks you step by step through installation. I had a friend help me lift the one piece assembly into the attic and that was all the help I required. It looks great and is very sturdy. I am very impressed.

My attic ladder was out of warrenty when a hinge (white metal) broke. After contacting Werner, to find replacement parts, they responded within 24 hours. They are sending a new section with stainless steel hindges at no charge.

The stairs fir well...went in easy. However, when I pulled the stairs down I found one of the ladder rungs was riveted into place upside down at the factory! I guess I 'll live with it because I don't want to take the old one down and replace it !! It just shows you good help is tuff to find!
