Where is the chocolate?,
This review is from: Werther's Original Caramel Milk Chocolate, 5.2-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am a big fan of Werther's Original, so I loved the idea of merging the delicious Werther's caramel with chocolate. Like another reviewer, I expected more of a caramel presence. However, when I realized that caramel was swirled with milk chocolate in a bite-size (38 gram, individually wrapped in foil) piece, I still hoped for something good.
Upon eating the first piece, something seemed wrong. The slightly plastic-like aftertaste reminded me of those big blocks of chocolate often used for dipping. So I took a closer look at the ingredients and compared them with two other bite-size chocolates I had around the house - Hershey's Bliss and Dove dark with almonds. All three products list chocolate as the first ingredient. But only Werther's doesn't include chocolate among the ingredients of the milk chocolate. The Werther's milk chocolate is made from Sugar, cocoa butter, cream powder, cocoa liquor, whole milk powder, butter fat, artificial flavor and emulsifier soy lecithin). Where is the chocolate? The second ingredient is white chocolate, which also seems to be made without any real chocolate (cocoa butter is the first ingredient, then sugar). It seems the caramel swirl is really white chocolate with caramel flavor and color. Nutritionally, Werther's does worse than Hershey's and Dove - with more calories, more saturated fat, less fiber and protein and twice as much cholesterol (but slightly less carbs and sugars). Hershey's and Dove also taste better. I imagine Werther's could come up with a great product, though this is not it. Using quality ingredients would be a good start.

Delicious. Tastes Great If You Like Werther's Originals.,

I am a fan of Werther's candies and was happy to try these. They are a soft milk chocolate and caramel in the Werther's original flavor that have been combined into a half dollar flat elliptical shape. The milk chocolate and caramel are swirled together. The flavor is good, the texture is very smooth like dove chocolates are. The chocolate flavor has a nice balanced quality that's not too sweet and complements the subtle caramel flavor that is well proportioned to the chocolate so that both flavors can be distinctly tasted. This is a nice candy that carriers on the Werther's tradition.

I'm diabetic and could only sample a few, but I handed these scrumptious goody out to my office colleagues and they were unanimous. They found the taste exquisite and would put them on their shopping list. EXCELLENT.

Didn't like this at all,

Werther's Original is a brand best known for their butterscotch toffees and hard candies. They are making a go into the chocolate market combining their trademark "caramelt" in a chocolate swirl. It wasn't a hit for me.
Chocolate and caramel is usually a good combination, but this just didn't work. I'm not a fan of cheap chocolates in general, being of the opinion that if you are going to indulge and take in some yummy fat, you might as well do it with quality. The blending isn't too good, and I got a much stronger caramel taste than chocolate. There is also the nasty sugar aftertaste left by cheap chocolates, where they pump up the sweetness to mask the lack of cocoa. I don't know how much actual chocolate made it into this candy (it doesn't say on the ingredients), but it seems to be mainly milk, butter and chemicals. On the plus side, you get quite a few in the bag, and they are attractive looking. They are about the size of two quarters, and wrapped in gold foil. However, they taste pretty bad, and after sampling a few the remainder of the bag wound up in the break room at work. Definitely not something I would pick up again.

The caramel flavor almost overpowers the milk chocolate in this candy, I would have liked the chocolate to be a stronger flavor in a candy with chocolate in the name. That being said I found the flavor very pleasant and I really enjoyed the candy.
The shape of the candy is flat and elliptical. So it fits perfectly on your tongue. You don't have to chew, you can just let it melt from the natural body temperature in your mouth. Which makes the candy very satisfying without having to eat very many pieces. The bag suggests three pieces as a serving and my bag had more then ten servings. I managed to not need more then one or two at a time, so one bag of candies will last me quite some time.

A Completely New Offering from Werther's,

I was a bit skeptical of a mass retail candy delivery quality and taste. However, these Werther's Original Caramel Chocolates surprised me! They are not a hard candy, but a soft chocolate/caramel combination. A nice special treat for yourself. Chocolate can be overpowering to me, but this is a light milk chocolate, with the delicious smooth caramel mixed in.
The Werther's name is one of the few mass retail candies that I truly deserve the description of high quality. The packaging is also classic. A beautiful outside bag, with old fashioned foil wrapped candies inside. Very impressed, and I will buy this in the future.

These treats are very creamy, much like European chocolate, IMO. They aren't hard or chalky like some chocolates can be. I really enjoy the texture.
When I first tried them, I thought that the caramel taste was very muted and that they were basically just chocolate treats. Perhaps it's batch dependent or personal tastes, because some others have said that the chocolate is very muted and that they taste like caramel. As I had more of them, though, the taste really grew on me. They are quite good, in my opinion. As with most products that come in large quantities, I'd suggest trying out a bag from the local store before ordering 12 bags of them from Amazon. I really like them, but I don't think that I'd want to get 12 bags at a time.

This is a very light milk chocolate, so much so that you barely taste the chocolate. The taste is mostly caramel, but that is what Werther's is famous for, right? Besides, the candy is called Caramel Chocolates, not Chocolate Caramels. Overall, this is a good candy, but not something for a chocolate lover. If you like dark chocolate, you will probably be disappointed with just how milky this chocolate is. If you love caramel, this may be the candy for you.

Not your grandfather's Werther's Original,

Werther's Original is a name synonymous with the world's best butterscotch candy. So, I naturally assumed these new Werther's candies would be equally delectable. They are not. Werther's Caramel Chocolates are totally different from the Original hard butterscotches. They are soft, flat, oval-shaped milk chocolates swirled with caramel flavoring. They are smooth and creamy (perhaps just a bit waxy), but they have a sickeningly sweet taste that kind of burns your throat a little. I'd much rather have a Rolo or a plain Hershey's Kiss. If you'd like to try these, I'd recommend picking up just one 5.2 oz. bag (that's about 23 pieces) at the grocery store before investing in 12 bags of a candy you may not like. Werther's should stick to making hard butter candies; chocolate just isn't they're thing.

The Caramel Milk Chocolate squares tastes very good. I think it is comparable to the Ghirardelli Chocolate squares that we often buy here in the SF bay area.
