This review is from: Wesley Gold (Hardcover)
I will try to choose my words wisely because Ray Comfort seems like a nice person. However, this is a very poor book and should not have been published. I finished it but it was a struggle. He provides a brief biography of Wesley (not bad) and then pulls random journal entries from Wesley. Virtually nothing was taken from Wesley's sermons which is the true gold that a reader would want to be presented with.
After many journal entries, the author presents some additions/analysis/applications but these are so sophomoric and show very little evidence that the author is 1) a critical thinker, 2) really engaged with Wesley, and 3) spent a lot of time putting this book together.
I LOVE Wesley and saw this book so I wanted to get it but it adds nothing to Wesleyan scholarship. It does not even serve as a good survey for people unfamiliar with Wesley.
If you want to soak up Wesley, either read some of his standard sermons or pick up a book by Ken Collins. Good luck in your search. Avoid this text.
