Difficult assembly, but works well (so far),

Assembly was more difficult than with our previous elliptical trainer. It took me about five hours. The first hour I spent removing parts from the box and checking them against the parts list. In the process I found an extra short screw, loose in the box. The only short screws on the parts list were inside the pre-assembled frame, so I was forced to remove the side shields to ensure that the extra screw had not come loose from inside. This added about 10 minutes to my work.
Assembly was considerably hampered by one serious problem: The back end of the frame was badly bent, making it impossible to attach the rear stabilizer. I don't know if this happened at the factory or during shipping. With great effort, I was finally able to straighten the bent steel with the use of a 14-inch pipe wrench. Otherwise, I would have had to send the whole thing back and reorder. I also noted that the front of the frame and the front stabilizer were angled leftward about 5-10 degrees from the rest of the frame; this does not appear to affect the functioning of the unit, however. After assembly was complete, I tested it out. At first, the unit made a loud scraping noise, and was somewhat hard to pedal. Having removed the side shields earlier, I knew that this was because the lower end of the "C" magnet was in direct contact with the flywheel. This didn't seem right to me, but I wasn't sure. After a minute or so, however, there was a "clank" from inside, the unit became somewhat easier to pedal, and the scraping noise ceased. Evidently, the problem corrected itself. I have used the unit for about a month now. It is fairly quiet. It does wobble slightly on my carpeted floor, but otherwise seems to be working well. Time will tell how durable the unit is.

So far, so good!,
Bought It a week ago, so far so good. Nothing but good things to say at this point. It's a great workout in a short time. I'd be surprised if anyone who hasn't been excercising regularly can do more than 10 minutes on this machine.
As far as durability and reliability goes, you get what you pay for. Any elliptical under 500 dollars is not likely to have great construction, however, if you monitor it's performance and do the proper maintenance at the first sign of a problem (strange sound or odd performance) then it will last you for a very long time. Just like with a car, if you ignore these signs, you will just aggravate the problem and break something. I will update this review as time goes by, but I am confident that this machine will stay with me for a very long time.

Assembly is easy - don't be fooled,

I'm a little shocked by the reviews on here that complain about assembly being difficult. I mean - if you don't follow directions I suppose they could be tricky but my husband and I commented a few times how easy it was to assemble - we laughed at the thuoght of someone hiring a professional to put it together. It's a few dozen screws and bolts and a little grease. Start to finish it took us about an hour and a half and it now rides quiet as a mouse.
The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that the foot pedals are canted out. This might cause blisters for runners who wear arch supports or custom footbeds. I'll update this review when I find a solution to it, although we may just have to fab something. A last word to all the people that write about ellipticals being wobbly on carpet - unless you bolt them down - any piece of workout equipment - ESPECIALLY an upright unit - is going to tipsy on carpet. They are made for hard flat surfaces. If you need to place workout equipment on carpeting, get a bike or a treadmill where the center of gravity is distributed more evenly and much lower.

Great buy for the money,

I've only had this trainer for a couple weeks but with two of us using it every day I felt qualified to venture an opinion on what, thus far, has been a great machine. There are more expensive machines, and believe me we looked at them all, but dollar for dollar this is the best we found. Be forwarned though! This trainer is one of the more difficult ones to put together. The instructions are adequate but unless your familiar with metric bolt sizes its very difficult. But take your time and assemble it correctly and I dont think you will be dissapointed. Ok, that being said let me give you the pros and cons thus far. PROS: ROCK SOLID: Doesnt wobble at all on my concrete floor in the garage. QUIET: Other trainers we looked at, even some costing hundreds of dollars more were squeaky. This one doesnt. SMOOTH: It does have a long stride so short folks might find it a bit too much. I'm 6'1" my wife is 5'6" and it works great for us. Ok, now the CONS and I can only think of two. Like I said earlier. DIFFICULT TO PUT TOGETHER: However with patience and diligence you can do it. NOT CRAZY ABOUT THE DISPLAY: I wish it was the typical black on yellow display but instead its black on gray. I have a hard time reading it. wife likes it fine. Final word. I would classify this trainer for the person who has already had experience on one. Reason being that level one is fine but level 2 is equal to level 3 or 4 on our previous trainer. Thats it. I honestly think if the time and care is taken putting it together you will love this trainer. Hope this helps.
UPDATE Mar.29,2010: I've now had this machine for almost a year. Under daily use by either me or my wife and sometimes both it has held up beautiful. We moved it from the garage into the spare bedroom on a carpeted floor and it maintains its stability very well. I would definitely buy this machine again!

I just received this item as a gift and frankly I love it. Great priced and not very difficult to put together but it does take two people (per the instructions). I used it for the first time yesterday and wow what a workout. I can't wait to get home and work out some more. It was very user friendly and it was the best Mothers Day gift ever.

Need Engineer for assembly,
By
This review is from: Weslo Momentum 220 X Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
I bought this for $199. I think the price reflected the lack of ANY pre-assembly. You need an engineer to assemble it. This is the first time I have EVER had to grease the parts to assemble. In fact the grease was in a small square plastic bag (not a plastic squirt bottle) that was opened and useless. I had to get my own grease. The box instructions had a front page suggested "professional assembly" for at least $120. This unit should have had some basic factory assembly. I am a capable person and it took me 3 hours of fairly hard labor. This huge time and physical commitment needs to be considered before buying.

Best workout I've had at home.,
This review is from: Weslo Momentum 220 X Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
I took 45 minutes to assemble it. I have it on thick carpet so it's expected to wobble a little. Very comfortable! The best workout I've ever had at home (after having tried others). I got it for $199 and am very glad I did. After 25 minutes I was dripping sweat from head to toe, and felt great afterward. It was actually fun (aside from the workout). Can't wait to get on it again! Great product!

We found the elliptical to be very noisy, after calling the company I was told to loosen the bottom bolts and give it time to break in, this was well over a month ago, as of today it still makes noise unless we place catalogs under the bottom braces. All three adults in our house find that there is too much difference in going from the #1 and #2 resistance, we can't imagine going to the highest setting as I would never be able to push the pedals down. We are quite disappointed in the product.

Received in time. Very difficult to assemble. Took me and my husband almost 12 hours to assemble. Some part when you fix one end the other end does not fit!...so we had to disassemble all over and assemble in a sequence not in the manual.
Final part did not fit at all and one part just cracked and we had to order parts..........couldn't believe metal pieces would crack like that...it is low quality. Not happy with the product at all. Do not recommend this product. Not sturdy enough for its size. Shakes when we use it. I am only 145 lbs... |
