After knee replacement, patients are seeking three goals: relieving pain, regaining range of motion, and walking.

Most of the pain is from muscles and tendons getting used to the butchering of bones and new foreign objects where the knee used to be. The muscles continually contract and become stiff. The best way to reduce stiffness (and pain)is to keep the leg in motion.

This recumbent bike is comfortable and ergonomically designed to regain the range of motion from straight leg to 150 degrees of bending. You can adjust the amount of pedal resistance in addition to the seat for leg length. Most of the bikes at the gym have a bar that obstructs your knees when adjusting the seat close to the pedals. The Weslo is more forgiving and if you have extra long lower legs, the handle can be mounted behind the shaft for even more comfort.

While recovering from knee replacement, you will notice stiffness in the morning. The best way to approach this is to slide the seat backwards until you can pedal without pain . . . for a few minutes. Then move the seat forward slightly and pedal for a few more minutes. Repeat until the pain is too extreme . . . then rest.

The Weslo has two shortcomings. The seat adjustment is cumbersome and not real secure. To keep it tight, you must torque down on the tightening knob which is located too close to the frame and any pressure against the pedals will loosen it

The Weslo stationary exercise (recumbent) bike is everything we hoped it would be. It is quiet, easy to exercise with. Had a problem with the resistance and a technician came out and for no charge adjusted the resistance connection. Very good service. Eileen

After reading the reviews on here (Amazon) along with some other sites, I was a little skeptical of this product, mainly because of the price. Here is a run down of what I've experienced so far in the week I've had this (I'll update in a couple months if my experience somehow goes down)
1. Assembly was super easy. I had a little trouble with burrs when I was putting the bar on that holds up the digital display. I had a golf club brush in reach so I used that to get them off. I threaded the screws through every hole before screwing them in permanently, I always do this with any product I get that has assembly. It's just a good idea because things are made on production lines and the finer things like this suffer a little, but NO BIG DEAL AT ALL. Only thing I had to look at the directions twice for was to attach the bar that holds up the display. This I can see might be tricky for some. Make sure to pull somewhat firmly after hooking the first piece in and then pull up to stretch the cable so the other piece goes into it's "home". All in all, assembly took me about 45 min.
2. Resistance. I would suggest this bike for someone getting started with working out again or rehab. The highest tension isn't too tough, but then again, depends on your leg strength.
3. Quiet. This is actually extremely quiet. You can hear the little "hum" of the internal parts when riding, but that's expected. I shut the door to our workout room and my roommates hear me grunting over the sound of the bike haha.
4. Adjusting the seat. I suggest you work what's best for you. Depending on the surface your bike sits, it's actually pretty easy.

It took a while to assemble but the instructions were accurate. There was a metal burr on one of the pieces that slides into another metal piece so i needed to file it to put it together. The bike rides nice and is comfortable. The only negative I have encountered is that to adjust the seat distance for different height people is a pain in the a^^. If the bike will be used predominantly by one rider this is not an issue, but if multiple riders use the bike this could be a problem.

Loud squeaking and creaking from somewhere inside this machine. It creaks with every turn of the pedal. Can't ignore it, and can't turn the TV up loud enough to drown it out. Am annoyed that I spent 2 hours assembling it and have to spend another hour disassembling it in order to return it. Aaargh. If you got time to waste, then I guess you could take a chance on it, but if 3 hours of your life is better spent doing something else, buy another bike.

I recently purchased the Weslo recumbant exercise bike, and have been using it for about a week so far. I found the assembly to be a major pain--took me about three hours, and I had to stop on day 1 out of frustration. The tap in screws don't screw in properly, but this doesn't affect the overall usage of the bike. It rides very smooth and quiet, if you're in front of a tv you can go for a good while. The resistance levels are decent. The monitor isn't terribly accurate in terms of counting calories--it just ticks up steadily to suggest how many calories you're probably burning in a time frame. Another pain is adjusting the seat--really, really, really difficult to adjust it. It doesn't move back and forth smoothly. Luckily I'm the only one who really rides it, so I don't have to move it much.

For the price, you're getting a good deal though. For me it was the exercise that mattered most, and since I can track my time on the bike, I'm fine.
