Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill

I've had my C44 about 2 weeks now, and while I'm happy with it, I think I wish I'd waited until I could afford a better model. I've just started a weight loss journey, and I thought a treadmill would be a good investment given Alaskan winters.

Things I like about my C44:

It folds, thus taking up a small footprint of floor space when not in use. Rough estimate without measuring, you'll need a spot about 3' by 3' to store it when you aren't using it. The lock that holds it closed is sort of hard to release, which I think is a huge plus, as I babysit a toddler.

Quick-stop key (probably standard on all treadmills)....it clips to your belt or waistband, and then inserts the other end into the treadmill. The treadmill won't turn on without it, making it handy to take with me when I leave the house, so I have no worries about my children playing on it.

It seems sturdy. I'm not lightweight, in fact, when I bought it, i was just a few pounds under the 250lb weight limit, and it doesn't strain under my weight when I use it. I have personally used it to speeds of 3.5mph. My husband, about 200lbs, and athletic, runs at speeds up to 7mph and it, and it doesn't strain then, either.

Incline: it has MANUAL inclines of 3%, 6% and 9%.

What I don't like:

I use a Polar F6 heart rate monitor while I walk. I start walking on the treadmill (which starts the clock on the C44), and then I start my F6 monitoring. When my workout is over, my F6 ALWAYS has more time logged than the treadmill does. I've tested my F6 against stopwatches, and it appears to be dead on, so apparently the timer on the treadmill doesn't keep good time, which frustrates me, and makes me wonder if it's tracking the mileage correctly.

The thumb sensor for heart rate monitoring: it's horrible, no two ways about it. It jumps all over the place, within a span of about 2 seconds, it will measure my heart rate at 83, 144, and 199. From what I understand, all sensor type heart rate monitors are fairly poor, but I've also read that they can at least give you a close estimation of your heart rate. This sensor aboslutely CANNOT do that. If you buy a C44, definitely invest in a chest-strap heart rate monitor for accurate monitoring, don't rely on the treadmill's sensor.

The incline: Being totally new to exercise (ie, I've never purposely exercised in my life!), I thought it was great that the C44 had 3 levels of incline, and that would be perfect for a beginner like myself. Well, walking on a treadmill is not the most exciting thing I've ever done, and I've found some awesome treadmill workouts online, to vary things up a bit, but unfortunately, they all require incline use, and the C44's incline feature leaves much to be desire in that aspect. In order to adjust the C44's incline, you must turn off the treadmill, fold it up, and then manually adjust the leg height. Most treadmill workouts do sequences such as 2 minutes at 0%, 1 minute at 3%, 4 minutes at 0%, 2 minutes at 3%, etc. By the time you get off, adjust the incline, and get back on, you've lost your heart rate and just about the time you get it back to the targe4t zone, you've got to hop off and adjust again.

So, my advice on the C44.....if you can possibly afford a better treadmill, then save your money a little longer and get something better. If this is absolutely the best treadmill you can afford, get it. it DOES work well, and is certainly better than nothing. Even though it has it's flaws, the C44 HAS given me the motivation to get off my rump and get moving.

I find this unit to be an excellent choice for the money. It has adjustable speed from 1.0 mph to 10 mph in .1 increments. The belt is of ample width and long enough for longer strides. The display is easy to read and the controls are well marked. It has readouts for speed, fat burned, calories burned, speed of belt distance travelled and time of session. Also there is a pulse monitor. It has a safety key that is necessary to operate the unit and which clips to you for emergency shut-off. If you want to pause a session you push the stop button and all read-outs are frozen. If you pull the safety key the unit stops and the readout goes blank. The belt platform folds up fo storage in case it is necessary. My only complaint is I wish the pulse monitor operated a little faster. The assembly instructions could use improvement and the description of the screws could be better. Although the instructions recomend a helper for some steps I was able to assemble it alone. It appears to be a solid unit and I expect to get much use out of it.

I am very pleased with the Weslo Cadence C44 treadmill. I didn't want to spend over $450 on a treadmill but I thought if I did this that the treadmill would be flimsy, cheap and not well built. Much to my surprise this thing is very sturdy, heavy and densely built and a breeze to operate. The assembly was fairly straight forward if you follow simple instructions correctly. It took me about 1.5 - 2 hours to assemble (you only need to assemble both upright rails, hand rails and console). In some instances the instructions recommended that you have another person assist you. However, with some imagination, practical safety procedures and some muscle (I used a stack of books to keep the base up in order to screw in the frame bolts), I was able to assemble it by myself and I'm a 52 yr. old female. The treadmill is very sturdy and easy to fold up and store. For the money this thing is certainly worth it. I know I'll get many years of enjoyment and satisfaction from it.

I'd been interested in buying a treadmill after reading a blog entry written by someone who'd rigged his much more expensive version so he could use it while working on his computer. Given how much exercise equipment I've purchased over the years but never used (like the exercise bike which gave me a sore bum and back or the yoga ball that wasn't tall enough to let me sit at my desk or... oh, so many other things), I didn't want to spend a fortune on a treadmill only to use it as yet another glorified coat rack.

What I did want, however, was one that offered ease of use and portability, just in case I needed to put it away. I also wanted one at a decent price, and that's exactly what the Weslo Cadence C44 offered.

Thanks to a little inventiveness on my husband's part, we were able to build a wooden platform on which I can rest my laptop so I can read news or even write while walking on the treadmill. This Weslo version offers speeds low enough to make that possible, although the motor at first seemed rather loud at the lowest speeds. We fixed that, too, by removing the motor hood and gluing in a rubber baffle (much like the one surrounding most dishwashers), then lubricating it with the recommended silicone spray.

Ever since then, I've been able to combine typing while walking on my treadmill (which, incidentally, I'm doing right now). The beauty of that setup is that I no longer have to set aside specific time to exercise: I can combine it with things I'm already doing. Granted, I'm not getting a cardio workout while plugging away on my computer at a mere 1.5 mph, but I *am* getting exercise. For cardio work I just remove the little wooden platform and ramp up the treadmill's speed -- something that's as easy as the push of a button on this machine.

I should point out that I'm short (5'2"), so the length of the belt is no issue to me. The belt is easily long enough for my stride, whether walking or running. My husband is 6', though, and he says he's also comfortable on this... provided he doesn't set the speed so high that he's struggling to stay near the handles like you're supposed to.

About a week after we set this up (a process which took a little over an hour), we needed to move it out of our family room because we had company coming. This was easily done -- the treadmill folds mostly flat and has a plastic L-shaped catch to keep it from opening while you roll it on the wheels attached to the base. When folded the machine fit neatly under our bed and was just as easy to bring out and put back up once our company left.

I love this thing, and I love its price. Granted, it may not have all the bells and whistles that a fancier, more expensive version does. For instance: a built-in fan would be nice, and the base of the cup holders are foolishly tilted so that the only thing you can use in them are sports bottles with caps. But it IS perfect for the new treadmill user -- like me -- and provides a good workout without unduly straining one's budget.

I am very happy with this treadmill.
It took me about 2 hours to assemble.
But the power did not turned on.
I called the manufacturer who answered me right away, and gave instructions explaining to tighten up some loosing devices, and then the power went on.

Weslo does answer and help u with any problem, i think this is VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM THE WESLO COMPANY. I just received my "Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill" and have attempted to assemble it. The handrail holes are not drilled in the proper spots so that they may be attached correctly to the console. The Customer Service numbers are all disconnected. Their website gives an additional number to call, and a recorded message tells you to either call the now disconnected numbers, or puts you on hold for about 2 minutes before it hangs up on you. I have wasted an entire afternoon trying to contact them. This company is a complete scam. If you are even considering buying one of their products, your money is better spent getting your head checked.

What a poorly constructed piece of equipment. I've had it 6 months and it's already developed issues. It would run for 10 minutes then it would just randomly stop and refuse to run for more than 30 seconds at a time. The service number they posted on their site does not work, I emailed them and someone responded to recalibrate the machine but she gave me the wrong instructions and when I emailed her back she never responded. Customer service is atrocious and the product sucked. I suppose you get what you pay for. I might as well say I rented a treadmill for 6 months..

The Cadence C44 Treadmill was purchased new for Christmas. The belt would run then jerk, whine and stop. I spent countless hours on hold with the Weslo service center. They sent me instructions and replacement parts 3 different times. After installing the parts it still did not work. A repairman was sent. He got it running with a wrinkle in the walking belt he could not remove. It ran 2 weeks. A new belt was ordered 2 months ago & is still on back order. In the 5 months we have had it, it was only usable for 2 weeks. This treadmill is a COMPLETE LEMON!

DO NOT BUY THIS TREADMILL! After spending hours putting it together (with some pieces that don't quite fit together) I started the treadmill only to find out that one of the belt rollers had fallen down about 3 inches. After opening up the front, I was able to fix it. Now that it's running, the thing is so jerky that I don't feel safe walking, much less running, on it. If it's that jerky with someone at 140 lbs, I feel really bad for anyone heavier trying to use it. This treadmill is flimsy and unsafe. SAVE YOUR MONEY, SAVE YOUR TIME AND DON'T BUY THIS TREADMILL!!

It took us about one hour to assemble this treadill, only because we messed up in the beginning. It does not take up much space and it is workable.
