We used it when my in-laws came in. The granite (for warming foods) is beautiful and likely expensive which is probably why the engineer/designer went cheap with the metal top that actually grills the meat.

The metal grilling portion is very thin/light. When we began cooking the thinly sliced steak and salmon, we brought it right out from the fridge. With the rapid change in temperature, the top did begin to ((warp/bend)). However, when it cooled off, it went right back to normal. Was slightly disturbed when it happened because it was a pretty drastic change in shape. The heat this racelette grill gives off is perfect and certainly hot enough to cook the foods we prepared.

If you do not mind spending more money for this size then go get the Swissmar but we only use it during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Overall, worth the money.

This item doesn't even diserve a one star. I've used other raclettes before at friends houses, and decided to buy one myself. Big mistake, I was excited to finally have one of my own and invited my friends over. My friends are from Germany and France and the Raclette is a big item for them there. We turned it on, it heated real nice at first, then the top slowly warped (kinda like when you put a cold cookie sheet in the oven and warps) until the food wouldn't cook much less stay on the grill top. I decided to try to cook an egg on the flat side and the top tipped over and raw egg went everywhere. First I thought that maybe I didn't have it sitting on the metal prongs properly and tried readjusting it 3 times, but when it's warped it doesn't matter. And after a while we could hardly get the cheese to melt. When we turned it off it slowly started to flatten out, but not completely.
I recommend you purchase a better quality grill.

I travel to Switzerland regularly on business and have enjoyed raclette there, either using a grill or scraped off the large wheel. I bring home the cheese occasionally and we've melted it (carefully!) under the broiler, which is not the best way and you have to be really careful not to burn it. We've been looking for a reasonably priced raclette grill for some time now, and liked this one, but had some doubts after reading some negative comments. We finally decided to go for it, and so far we're glad we did. It melted the cheese nicely and the grill top kept our vegetables and meats warm (or if left longer, actually cooked them a bit). We haven't used the stone top yet, but will try it next time. One thing we're very happy with is that the heat doesn't travel to the table top. We tried it on a counter and were comfortable that the bottom stayed cool, so we next tried it on our glass top table (with lots of padding just in case). Happy to say the glass was cool the whole time, and even the padding didn't really get warm. So far we're quite happy with this raclette grill.

I ordered the raclette on Jan 11th 2010 after a friend told me about it. I thought the price was great and I loved the fact that a stone top is included. The next day UPS delivered...I hadn't even requested overnight shipping...so thank you....We tried it that evening and were amazed how well it worked...we will try the stone top next time....

This is the second raclette grill we have purchased. The first one is a Swissmar KF-77081 8-Person Stelvio Raclette for $134, twice the price of this one! Our family enjoyed it so much that we've given a raclette to each of our kids when they went to college. We didn't want to spend as much as on the first one, so I searched till I found this one. And it's great! I thought only the higher end priced items would have a quality unit and the granite stone, but this one does, too, although it wasn't mentioned in the description. It works great. It's the right size for 8 people, and you can even make it work for twelve, with a little sharing. The unit heats up quickly, the granite is good quality, and grill is a little less bulky than the rectangular swissmar. We have bought this for several others as graduation gifts for other family and friends, and wedding gifts, too. I think that speaks well for its quality, and if I had to do it over again, I would skip the swissmar and get the West Bend for us, too. Why spend more when you can get just as good a product for half the price?

I am overall very satisfied with the raclette grill. I haven't tried the grantite stone top yet but was happy about the other top. I haven't noticed any warping of the top like others mentioned but I noticed that the temperature went down drastically but that was most likely due to us adjusting the temperature. I haven't quite figured out yet at what temperature I have to set it to get the best results but the more I use it the better it will work. Will buy a few more for family. I am highly recommending buying this grill. It is much cheaper than most other raclette grills. Well worth every penny spent.

We feel happy with this raclette. We have a lot of experience using this type of product and this one turns out to be an excellent one at a affordable price.

Lived in France the last 3 years, before that in Germany and Hungary. I had quality European Raclette grills. This one doesnt really make the top 10 for me.

The real problem is the heating element that is much to weak.

it takes a looong time to heat up and to get any color on your cheese is very very time consuming.


Aside of this, good price, the stone is a nice extra

all in all a little bit more power would have made this a good product. like this, I would call it not the best buy I did this year

I bought this raclette grill last January, it was very good, the item came on time, it was very efficient, it came with a marble stone and the grill, we used it few times so far and it works great, I particularly like the temperature control nob. I think it's a great buy for the value!

We have done Raclette for years, and this device is really top notch. It comes with the small spatulas that some of the other models don't give you. Most other brands are 2 to 3 times more expensive, and you don't get anything better. I bought 4 of them and gave them as Christmas gifts. Don't be afraid of this bargain! Makes for a really nice dinner party.
