I love perculator coffee makers because you get HOT coffee. I had a different brand that had some poorly designed features. What I really like about this West Bend pot is the water level indicator, (although it starts at 8 cups). The only wierd problem is that every 10 min. or so it momentarily starts re-perking, to keep the coffee warm. If you don't remove the coffee ground holder it will send the hot water back through the grounds.

Good percolator with crummy plastic top,
This review is from: West Bend 54149 12-Cup Automatic Coffee Percolator, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
For the money, this percolator could at least have a top (clear spout) that isn't made out of plastic. I paid $60 for this percolator and within 9 months the clear, plastic spout was broken (disintegrated from the heat). I don't leave the percolator on longer than 30 minutes. The part from West Bend is $1.99 with shipping of $7.99 plus tax. Why does it cost $7.99 to ship such a small part? I am disappointed with the quality of this West Bend item.

Makes a good cup of coffee but you will need to adjust the amount of coffee grinds for your taste (stronger or weaker). Also the coffee comes out really hot (no kidding) and it stays hot for awhile. The cup indicator only shows between 8 and 12 cups- should be 2 to 12. Very easy to use and clean. It would have been good to have a temp gauge so you could make the coffee perk longer or shorter (to make a stronger or weaker coffee). Like all other products- this product is made in China. But it seems to be built good but only time will tell. What happen to made in the U.S.A!

I have tried other electric percolators, and I keep coming back to this West Bend. I perked a fresh pot yesterday morning, and I wanted to take the morning off just to drink my coffee. I remove the grounds from the basket, and reheat the coffee the next few mornings. It's still good, and I really think West Bend makes the difference.

It works great, but on the inside bottom of the pot the material has started to chip away. It must not be stainless. I now have to order a new pot. Different brand.

Ok, so I've been searching for a good percolator to perc my coffee with. I have this nothing camping stove top percolator that has worked well in the wild, but buying an electric one for home use has been tricky. The reviews complain about bad electronics, or weak percolating. Well, if you desire super strong coffee/tar, you would need a stove top percolator to let it perc longer. For someone like me, who likes normal coffee with a good flavor, an electric that has auto shut off should be fine....assuming you can find a good percolator.
The West Bend percolator.....IS NOT IT. I made several pots of coffee with it, and no matter what I did or how much coffee I used, it would spill coffee grounds all over the place inside. This is not a case of grounds getting into the coffee which happens in percolating. This is coffee maker that percs so fast and furiously that the grounds float the lid off the basket inside and spill out in large amounts into the coffee(and it tastes horrible). VERY DISAPPOINTING! Back it goes. My solution after trying several different percolators is to go back in time.....30+ years...~~~~~~~~ I found a Corning-Ware 10 cup (E1210) percolator from the 1970's on the net and bought it for just a few more dollars than this West Bend mess. It simply is built like a tank, and slowly....percolates, the best cup of coffee I ever had! Look it up. There's plenty of em out there. Sure there's a chance it will fail eventually being older..but I bet it will still out last the West Bend piece of blech.... Happy Percing!!

Since I threw away the box and can not return this item, I am also throwing away the pot after trying to use it for one week. Float does not work in handle and there are no measurement indentations on inside of pot. Worst pot I have ever encountered.

I bought this to replace a Farberware percolator which lasted only 1 year. It brewed extremely slow, but other than that I was satisfied. After 3 months it would not stop brewing unless I unplugged it. I contacted the company because it is under warranty, and was told that they sold their warranty department. After several attempts I have been unable to contact anyone. Complete waste.
