5.0 out of 5 stars Best Tea Kettle On the Market
I recently purchased this tea kettle from Amazon.com.
It is wonderful! The outside of the kettle stays cool while the water inside boils. Heating the water to boiling only takes a few minutes which is nice when you have a hungry preschooler waiting for their Ramen noodles. I live in Wisconsin so I am partial to purchasing Westbend products as they are known for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Automatic shutoff definition unclear
What was appreciated about my previous electric teakettle was that the automatic shut-off shut off when the water reached the proper temperature. This tea kettle only shuts off when the water has totally evaporated.

I love my electric teakettle! I use it all the time. This kettle is great quality for the price, and it heats water FAST. It is also very well insulated and has not affected any surface I put it on. The whistle is very convenient, and it will automatically shut off if the water has boiled dry. Great item, especially for a dorm room! Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for a while, November 10, 2006

I've had two of these kettles and like the design, the whistle, and the quickness with which it heats. However, both kettles eventually began to leak after a couple of years. If you buy one, I suggest making sure you pour out any remaining water once you've used it, and don't accidentally overfill. I am not sure which caused my leakage, but I'm buying another electric kettle of a different brand this time. Still for the price, I've been very happy with this kettle. It's lasted a long time, and I can afford to replace it when it's worn out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Broke mine and I'm going crazy without it, February 23, 2004

I bought one of these when I lived in the dorms in college. It came in handly and since I have moved to a house all my roommates love it. One of them managed to melt the cord on the toaster oven and life hasn't been the same in our kitchen since. Works great and is so convenient and easy to use.

3.0 out of 5 stars on/off, October 26, 2005

It's a great little kettle, but unfortunately there is no on/off switch. It boils quickly and never bubbles over, but I don't like having to unplug it to turn it off.

I had an electric tea kettle for 10 years that I loved. This kettle has two things that I really like that it didn't have: a whistle and it stays cool to the touch. However, it takes longer to heat than the one I previously had and yet holds less water. I am a little disappointed in its efficiency.

4.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye little kettle..., January 15, 2007
I owned this kettle for 5 years, and last night it died. Came to a boil, and stopped, never to whistle again. Overall, it worked pretty good, though it was prone to dripping water all over from the spout when pouring. Sometimes the whistle would be a little quiet, and it would boil dry.

R.I.P little kettle (2001 - 2007)

2.0 out of 5 stars Do you trust plastics?, December 12, 2008

This tea kettle works fine for what it is-- a plastic tea kettle. The water is actually heated in a plastic container, and you can smell the plastic in the steam coming off-- at least for the first dozen fillings, which is all I have tried. Given the many known and unknown health effects of compounds coming from plastics, do you really want to drink the water that it heats?

I owned this Tea Kettle brand before had it about 10-15 years but must now replace, some rust and some other foreign powdered material is coming out of the bottom of the kettle but did not hurt the workings of the kettle still works perfect but just was tired of the mess it would make from time to time, but all in all this is a fantastic kettle for the price which I might add was a better price from Amazon than the manufacture price with the old one 10-15 years ago which back then I paid 50 dollars for. This kettle boils super fast like in a minutes time, I don't boil other liquids in it as it states you can, just plain water for my Tea; diehard Tea drinker here!! so you can imagine this kettle is going all the time and gets plenty of use and stands up to all this for this many years my only hope this new one does the same which I believe it will as it is the very same exact kettle I had before which I just replaced. So if you want a great long lasting kettle for a great low price buy this one and you will be glad you did. I have also had the canadian version of this same make and model with the same results lasted many years, I always return to this same brand and model with great service everytime. This kettle also looks good. Well here's hoping you get the best long lasting service I did with mine. And I don't really know why others have rated this kettle much lower, as I say it has been a great Kettle to me. I rate this Kettle a big emphatic! 5 Stars!
