5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Electric Skillet!
I go back to the days when electric skillets were awkward, horrible to clean and very heavy.

The West Bend is a dream, cooks evenly, easy to handle, a snap to clean and heavy enough to hold to the counter but light enough to move easily. I like the high dome for excellent steaming and I made the best fried chicken I had in a long time. The temperatures are very true...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't count on it for good ole fried chicken
Although this is a fine product to use instead of a nonstick pan on the stove top don't confuse it for an electric fry pan. I made a deal with my mom, I would get her a new electric fry pan to replace hers of 40 years and she would make me a nice fried chicken and dumpling dinner. The nonstick surface does not brown like the old fry pans did. It is very light weight...

I like the high dome for excellent steaming and I made the best fried chicken I had in a long time. The temperatures are very true. I only wish a small booklet had come with it for suggestions. I think the price is reasonable. It is an item that you'll wonder how you did without it once it is in your kitchen.

It is very light weight. So much so that I was completely surprised upon opening it and I remembered right away that old saying about "if a pan is too light it's not a good pan". Sadly after spending $50.00 on this item I'm out shopping again for, yup, a "real" electric fry pan. Lower your expectations and you'll be happy with this. If you are expecting to brown foods or cook like mom did, it won't happen in this electric skillet (electric fry pan it is not).

Only problem with this skillet is that the lid does not properly fit. I also wish it had a steam vent on the lid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for frying or slow cooking!, February 15, 2003
This review is from: West Bend 72661 Oblong Electric Skillet (Kitchen)
We got this item as a Christmas gift. Wife and I love it. The non stick surface is really NON STICK! Fries chicken to perfection, cooks a slow cooking meal like stew with baking powder dumplings great and simple things like pork chops with onions turn out very well!
Even heat, roomy for a lot of food, accurate temperature controls and easy cleaning make this a great extra frying pan!
Remember--don't use a lot of oil for frying or sauteeing anything. You don't need too for this is non stick and browns better with less--not more oil. If you want a deep fryer get a deep fryer, not an electric fry pan.

We love this electric skillet, but at first my wife complained to me saying we don't need all these gadgets that I buy,but after she used it once it was a different story she loves using the electric skillet for everything. It saves a lot of time and it is fast and easy to clean up. We can do frying, steaming and warming up leftovers.

I like this item alot and this is the second one I've owned. Don't put the lid in the dishwasher because it takes the finish off. It happened on both of mine, thanks to my roomate. The screws that hold the handles come loose frequently and the aluminum threads on the base strip VERY easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars WestBend electric skillet, November 4, 2005

I love this electric skillet have had one for years and have had no problems with this brand. There is some draw backs however with this skillet some meats like sausage does not get browned but all other meats do very well and the non stick teflon does wear off quickly. Thermostat outlast the skillet and cooks evenly but for the money it's a very good kitchen appliance, I would recommend this product especially to newly married couples.

Lightweight, but with good heat distribution. Good temperature control. Easy to clean. We use it for everything, (spaghetti sauce, chili, grilled sausage, short ribs), and couldn't be happier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Large Family Small Kitchen Great Skillet, June 23, 2000
This review is from: West Bend 72661 Oblong Electric Skillet (Kitchen)
I was giving this skillet as a wedding gift. We have used it and loved it ever since. It has been a great help in cooking large meals in my small kitchen. The skillet is electric and can be used on the counter, leaving the range top open, in effect adding an extra cooking venue to your kitchen. It can also be used for baking chicken and other oven dishes. This frees the oven for additional baking, or allows the oven to stay off and cool on hot summer nights. The skillet is great for taking hot meals to potlucks, or for serving warm dishes for a buffet style meal. The greates feature in my opinion, is the non-stick surface. Most recipes can be cooked with little or no fat. Food doesn't stick nad skillet very easy to clean. This skillet is the most used item in our kitchen and the gift we give most for bridal showers and weddings.
