Great Heat Distribution, February 9, 2008
This review is from: West Bend 76220 20 by 10 Inch Griddle (Kitchen)
Our previous non-stick giddle was nearly identical in shape, size, and contruction. (I can't recall the manufacturer -Presto?) The old griddle was die cast aluminum with the "heat tape" pressed into a serpentine channel cast into the underside.
The underside appearance of this new West Bend griddle is the same but the serpentine "heat tape" is fully encapsulated in the aluminum... probably inserted into the die cast tool prior to injection of the aluminum.
I suspect this is why the West Bend griddle has superior heat distribution.
Probably like many dads, I use the griddle for pancakes every Sunday morning. My wife uses it throughout the week. We both agree that to date, this is the best griddle we've owned.
UPDATE: It's now 20 months later and the griddle is wore out. The surface is fine, but the electrical plug/receptacle is no longer usable. The three-fingered contacts on the plug/receptacle are very corroded (I always use the griddle at 375°F). The contacts get very warm during operation and have begun to melt the nearby plastic resulting in a terrible smell during use (not very appetizing). The contacts also spark and crackle during operation. Considering today's price and an estimated usage of 1-1/2 times per week, I guess the cost is only about $0.50 per use...so I'm going to order another one, but I'm not happy about the short life of the contacts. Are you listening West Bend?

A great replacement for frying pans, October 31, 2004
This review is from: West Bend 76220 20 by 10 Inch Griddle (Kitchen)
I wanted a griddle because the surface area and shape of frying pans prevent me from cooking as much food at one time as I would like. I also don't like that most frying pans and stove burners don't match up to make a level cooking surface. This griddle solves both very well. It is perfectly flat, allowing the butter or oil to stay where you want it. It is huge, holding 8 slices of French Toast at once and cooking them all evenly.
I have nothing but possitive things to say about this griddle. It is exactly what I hoped for. The only reason why I only gave 4 stars instead of five is that it would have been nice if it came with a cover. None of them do, but that coupled with the fact that I got it for $10 cheaper then Amazon, on sale at Dillards, earns it 4 stars.

Great, but..., July 10, 2006
This review is from: West Bend 76220 20 by 10 Inch Griddle (Kitchen)
The plug dial you use to adjust the temperature broke on us after only about 6 months. We re-glued it and it lasted for a while, but just broke again. You can get a replacement part from the West bend Website for ~$9, but it isn't a very well made dial, other than that, it is great. It is pretty uniform in temperature and very big, both very important things.
