5.0 out of 5 stars Great Heat Distribution

I have had lots of griddles and have worn them out using them but this one was the worst. I actually returned one because it had a bad connection between the cord and the griddle and would not stay on, it would lose connection as I was cooking on it and i would have half done pancakes on it.

So I returned it thinking it was a defective one well the second one was...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Heat Distribution, February 9, 2008

Our previous non-stick giddle was nearly identical in shape, size, and contruction. (I can't recall the manufacturer -Presto?) The old griddle was die cast aluminum with the "heat tape" pressed into a serpentine channel cast into the underside.
The underside appearance of this new West Bend griddle is the same but the serpentine "heat tape" is fully encapsulated in the aluminum... probably inserted into the die cast tool prior to injection of the aluminum.
I suspect this is why the West Bend griddle has superior heat distribution.
Probably like many dads, I use the griddle for pancakes every Sunday morning. My wife uses it throughout the week. We both agree that to date, this is the best griddle we've owned.

UPDATE: It's now 20 months later and the griddle is wore out. The surface is fine, but the electrical plug/receptacle is no longer usable. The three-fingered contacts on the plug/receptacle are very corroded (I always use the griddle at 375°F). The contacts get very warm during operation and have begun to melt the nearby plastic resulting in a terrible smell during use (not very appetizing). The contacts also spark and crackle during operation. Considering today's price and an estimated usage of 1-1/2 times per week, I guess the cost is only about $0.50 per use...so I'm going to order another one, but I'm not happy about the short life of the contacts. Are you listening West Bend?

4.0 out of 5 stars A great replacement for frying pans, October 31, 2004

I wanted a griddle because the surface area and shape of frying pans prevent me from cooking as much food at one time as I would like. I also don't like that most frying pans and stove burners don't match up to make a level cooking surface. This griddle solves both very well. It is perfectly flat, allowing the butter or oil to stay where you want it. It is huge, holding 8 slices of French Toast at once and cooking them all evenly.

I have nothing but possitive things to say about this griddle. It is exactly what I hoped for. The only reason why I only gave 4 stars instead of five is that it would have been nice if it came with a cover. None of them do, but that coupled with the fact that I got it for $10 cheaper then Amazon, on sale at Dillards, earns it 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but..., July 10, 2006
This review is from: West Bend 76220 20 by 10 Inch Griddle (Kitchen)
The plug dial you use to adjust the temperature broke on us after only about 6 months. We re-glued it and it lasted for a while, but just broke again. You can get a replacement part from the West bend Website for ~$9, but it isn't a very well made dial, other than that, it is great. It is pretty uniform in temperature and very big, both very important things.

4.0 out of 5 stars West Bend Good for the Money, March 9, 2006
This review is from: West Bend 76220 20 by 10 Inch Griddle (Kitchen)
Overall it is a simply designed and effective product. I am happy with it and would make the purchase again if doing it over. The only issue I have is that it doesn't heat perfectly even, but this is more of a food aesthetic issue than a food quality issue. It's wonderful to make more than one pancake or french toast at a time, and great for Okonomi-Yaki.

This griddle is great for week-end pancakes. The temperature dial ensures that all pancakes from the first to the last come out a perfect golden brown. Easy to clean, too!

Hi Everyone,
I love my new griddle. Tho not the one I originally wanted I must say I am VERY pleased with this one from West Bend. It has plenty of cooking room for a variety of items to cook at once. The heat seems to be very evenly distributed, and cleanup is a breeze. Great for seasoned cooks as well as new cooks. I would recommend this as a great gift for yourself, or for a bride to be starting out.
Peace to all, Mary

I received this griddle as a gift. My family enjoy's breakfast together on the weekends. But we all like something different. This griddle has plenty of room for eggs, bacon and pancakes. The grease trap is great. Using the griddle makes clean up quick and easy.

I have had lots of griddles and have worn them out using them but this one was the worst. I actually returned one because it had a bad connection between the cord and the griddle and would not stay on, it would lose connection as I was cooking on it and i would have half done pancakes on it.

So I returned it thinking it was a defective one well the second one was worse, the connection between the cord and the griddle started to smoke and caught on fire, good thing I was right there when it happened.

Since I threw the box away I can not return it, so to me I might as well had taken 40.00 and just threw it out the window cause that is basically what I did. The thing is still new, doesnt even have a scratch on it, that is how little I was able to use it. Then when it caught on fire I quit using it.

So if you own one of these please dont leave it unattended.

4.0 out of 5 stars West Bend 76220 20-1/2-by-10-1/2-Inch Griddle, January 29, 2006
This review is from: West Bend 76220 20 by 10 Inch Griddle (Kitchen)
The griddle is very spacious. Eight pancakes easily fit on the surface at one time. I haven't tried to fit an entire pound of bacon on it at once, but it looks like it is big enough for the job. The heating element gets up to temperature fairly quickly and maintains its temperature consistantly. The only problem that I have found is that the the surface temp. is not distributed as evenly as I would have liked. Pancakes may come out two toned, golden brown where they were directly over the element and paler toward the edge.

This griddle is wonderful for pancakes and hamburgers. But it's a bit messy with the hamburgers. The grease does flow into the grease channel, but it's a tight fit to get in there to clean it. I use it for pancakes and it's heaven to make 8 at a time.
