I'm comparing this Theater Popper, which I just bought on clearance (price was low enough to humor my curiosity), to the regular West Bend Stir Crazy 6 qt Corn Popper, which I have been using 3-5 times per week for the past five years.

My formula for the regular Stir Crazy is 3/4 cup of popping corn with 2TB of coconut oil and 1 TB of salted butter. That yields enough popcorn to satisfy three adults, with never more than 5 unpopped kernels per batch (at least when using good, fresh popping corn).

The West Bend Theater Popper's instructions dictate that you use their measuring cups which are 1/4 cup for the corn and 1.5TB for the oil. Going by their recipe, I'd be using 50% more oil than I usually use (which makes for a really tasty result, I just couldn't eat it like that as often)- I will continue to experiment with the ratios to see what it can really handle.

Besides the relatively low capacity, on the three occasions that I've used it thus far, I've recovered around 30 unpopped kernels per batch. That's six times my maximum for unpopped kernels in the standard Stir Crazy. Most of these unpopped kernels are thrown free from the popper before they've heated up, and can be put back into another batch, but I always ended up with about 30 (which I figure is about two adult handfuls of popped corns). The resultant popped corn tastes about the same to me, albeit with more of an oily flavor (50% more, by my calculation). The resulting popped corn volume in the Theater Popper is about 5.5 measuring cups per batch (1/4 cup of kernels minus ~30).

Instructions were easy to follow. Popcorn pops up just right with minimal "un-popped" kernels. I ordered the 2.5 oz combo oil/popcorn. It measures out a little more than the measuring cup and spoon that comes with the popper, but I used it all anyway and it pops just fine. The smaller pot is a little difficult to clean, but the trade off is just enough popcorn for one or two people.

It's a great popcorn popper. We've had it less than a month and already used 20 lbs. of kernels! My guys have a fresh batch at least two or three times a day and it's taken over prime counter space because we can't seem to even put it away briefly.

Purchased the WestBend 2.5oz Stircrazy popper along with the oil, salt and butter as offered by Amazon. I then purchased at Kroger's Orville Redenbacher's original 30.oz popcorn and followed the directions as given in the instruction booklet. Added a little more salt then was called for and then made the popcorn and for final touches a little butter.
Since i ordered the popcorn boxes also sold by Amazon i ended up with a box and a half of popcorn.
The taste was quite similar to movie theatre popcorn and this sure beats microwave popcorn. There were some unpopped kernels but this is to be expected and the amount of unpopped kernels in the westbend was minimal as compared to microwave popcorn.

I also ordered the 2.5oz kettle packs of (popcorn+oil) and used this in the Westbend Stircrazy popper. It ssemed to me that i got at least 2 and a half boxes of popcorn as compared to what i mentioned above. Again the taste was very similar to movie theatre popcorn.

I cleaned all sides of the stircrazy popper with a soapy dishcloth and then used a wet dishcloth and paper towels to dry all the sides.
The guts of the popper was cleaned again the same way except i kept the popper from being submerged in water and then used paper towels to dry it.
The cleaning was not very difficult.
Next time i use the oil( the oil is semi solid) i will somewhat melt it in the microwave oven before adding the popcorn to the popper, trying to replicate the 2.5oz kettle packs.

It's fun to watch it make popcorn - watching the popcorn explode out of the pan. Unfortunately many of the first things that pop out of the pan are unpopped kernels. In fact, once I sort things out, I often get as much as 1/3 of the cup of corn again, which I put back in the pan for the next batch. They aren't "old maids," but fresh unpopped kernels that have popped out with the popped ones. Really - I mean as many as a couple dozen kernels. Anyway, it makes good popcorn. It's advertised as "easy to clean," but to me that means dishwasher. You can't even submerge the pan in water because it's connected to an electrical cord, so I'm not sure what they mean by easy to clean. Also, it only makes half what my old popper did, so instead of making one batch for each of us, I have to make two. It takes longer because between each batch I'm sorting out a lot of unpopped kernels. (Don't have room for a larger one.) We don't like microwave or air-popped corn, so this is about our only choice. My 40-year-old popper broke. I have purchased two similar replacement poppers on e-bay, but when they're 40 years old, they just can't take the heavy use we make of them. So, I'll keep this one because we eat a lot of popcorn. They don't make poppers like they used to!
