This song was written as a tribute to a legendary figure in West Coast Blues, the late Johnny Heartsman. He was part of the second generation of artists who combined blues with jazz, soul and funk elements, and sometimes latin rhythms. West Coast Blues always grooves but with a typical California laid back feel.

The lyrics say it all about Heartsman himself and the music he contributed to.

"West Coast" features GG Amos on stirring lead guitar and vocals and her performance exemplifies the sound described above. She is also the lyricist, co-arranger and producer.

Taki Komori who composed the music is also greatly featured here on Hammond B3 organ and lays a simmering bed of sound which explodes into a passionate solo. Amos and Komori are part of the 3rd generation of this blues style and they leave a memorable reference point for it among fans and music scholars alike.

Also on this track...master guitarist Ron Hull contributed rhythmic and lovely chord voicings throughout. He is also featured during the ending vamp trading tasty guitar licks with Ms. Amos.

Deep lyrical bass was played by the legendary Artis "A.J." Joyce. Mr. Joyce has lent his considerable bass talent to none other than Johnny Heartsman himself, Charlie Musselwhite, Sista Monica Parker, Ron Thompson and many others.

Ahaguna G. Sun's performance on drums here is soulful and hypnotic. He has recorded and toured with Frankie Beverly and Maze, four extensive world tours with Island recording artist The Looters, Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls, Bo Diddley, Hank Ballard and The Midnighters, Sun Bear, and played at Farm Aid with Willie Nelson.

These are all veteran musicians with long histories on the west coast.

The dreamy quality of this recording will transport listeners to a beautiful place..then and now.
