Hear My Train A Comin'

Widely recognized as one of the most creative and influential musicians of the 20th century, Jimi Hendrix pioneered the explosive possibilities of the electric guitar. Hendrix's innovative style of combining fuzz, feedback and controlled distortion created a new musical form. Because he was unable to read or write music, it is nothing short of remarkable that Jimi Hendrix's meteoric ... Read more in Amazon's Jimi Hendrix Store

Editorial Reviews

This 8LP collection tracks Jimi s incredible journey from R&B sideman to international acclaim.

This collection presents for the first time the most sought after of Jimi s pre-Experience recordings as a sideman for such Rhythm & Blues stars as The Isley Brothers, Don Covay, Little Richard and others. All of the misinformation and fake purported to feature Hendrix are swept aside for fans.

The LPs feature previously unreleased and commercially unavailable studio recordings from every chapter of his career, live recordings with the Experience and Band Of Gypsys spanning 1967 through 1970.

The studio recordings include never before released [or even bootlegged!] alternate versions of such classic fare as Are You Experienced, Fire, May This Be Love, Love Or Confusion and many more. In addition, new songs such as Hear My Freedom, Hound Dog Blues and Lonely Avenue make their debut as part of this special collection.

To provide further insight and understanding into Hendrix s creative development, WCSB presents acoustic and electric home recordings of Electric Ladyland signature songs such as Long Hot Summer Night, 1983 (A Merman I Shall Turn To Be), as well as My Friend and Angel later featured as part of First Rays Of The New Rising Sun. WCSB also features another major revelation an electric demo version of Bob Dylan s Tears Of Rage .

WCSB also features a previously unreleased version of Everlasting First, Jimi s 1970 celebrated collaboration with Arthur Lee & Love, an unheard 1967 studio session with Traffic s Dave Mason as well as an expanded presentation of Jimi s legendary session with jazz organist Larry Young.

Four hours of rare and previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix.

5.0 out of 5 stars JJimi !! December 7, 2010
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
Over the past 20 years there have been releases of Jimi's work that in my opinion have been quite lacking either in quality, production and just seemed to be for the purpose of making $$ off of his memory. This release is QUITE different. I purchased the 180 gram LPs because as I must explain to youngsters, your ears are ANALOG!

Masterful. The production values are superb, the tracks aren't some BS junk that was recorded without any thought. Needless to say, I have been so impressed with how this release of Jimi's material has been handled.

Worth every penny and brings tears to the eyes of Jimi's fans because it has been far to long that we have been able to sit back and hear the master do what he did the best - music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just fantastic! December 18, 2010

First, I really have to brag on Amazon. This was sent with the free shipping, yet I had it in my hands three days from the time I ordered it!

As for the LP box set itself, WOW! The packaging is beautiful, and well done. Details like plastic lined sleeves inside the covers of each album are a plus. The vinyl is whisper quiet, as good anything I have heard. $66, are you kidding?? The Dylan Mono box, also eight albums/180g is $167 on Amazon. The first LP and 1/2 give a good background of his early work while still developing his sound. The versions of his songs are fantastic. I agree with another reviewer in that I like them a little better than the album versions. This set is particularly good if you have read "Room Full of Mirrors", the Jimi Hendrix bio by Charles Cross, as this provides a great soundtrack to the book. Well, well worth the money.

Pristine sound, gorgeous packaging, and unbelievably cheap. If you love the warm sound of vinyl and you love Hendrix, you cannot go wrong...

5.0 out of 5 stars Music To Die For June 2, 2011
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
As someone who was never a die-hard Hendrix fan, I always respected him and recognized the greatness he brought to the world of music. With my recent purchase of a turntable, I was looking to expand my music and figured, why not take a chance on this 8 album box set. Wow, was it ever the right thing to do! Besides being a beautiful box set with a full-color 32-page liner note insert, you get to hear songs that nobody has ever heard (until now). While not every track is a home run (it really picks up in the 4th album and on) there are songs simply to die for. What you get when listening to this box set is a human being, Jimi Hendrix, sitting in the studio, going off into his own world and just playing his music. I'm not sure if it's the same with CD's but with the LP box set, you can just see Jimi sitting there on a stool, in the studio, getting into that "zone" and playing what comes from his heart. You are right there with him, listening to the music he is creating and experiencing it, first hand. The emotions an feelings that come through his music is just amazing. From this album, you know that Jimi Hendrix was a rare, talented person that only had a brief moment to shine, but shine like the sun he did and this box set confirms it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have ears, get this. August 31, 2011
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
This is an astounding value! It's some of the best vinyl quality, especially considering some of the source material. If you read the list of songs on the album and think it's just another ploy to get money from a dead artist - these are all DIFFERENT versions than those found on the released LPs. After listening to Hendrix's albums for so long, sometimes you forget that those were the takes that sounded the best, and that there was an incredible amount of improvisation and creativity in his songs. Live albums show this, but their audio is a mixed bag of quality (with the notable exception of the Winterland live album, which is getting released this September). Lay down the cash for this one, and think of Jimi as an incredible artist again, not just a t-shirt.

5.0 out of 5 stars PURE EAR CANDY!!!!! June 29, 2013
By Justme
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
First thing I realized when I received my copy was....WOW, this box set is a Monster! It's Ginormous! What we have here is no less then 8 LP's (each LP has their own "album jacket" and inner sleeve) housed in a sturdy but beautiful box. The artwork throughout this set is unbelievable. 59 standout tracks pressed on 180 gram vinyl! The sound quality is the best your gonna find anywhere. I haven't had this much fun listening to Hendrix in a while. 45 of these cuts are previously unreleased in these forms. Most are alternate versions or previously unheard. The real treat for Hendrix fans is the set's first 15 cuts. They take you back to a young budding guitar hero playing sideman to musical icons like "The Isley Brothers", "Little Richard", "King Curtis" to name a few. You can definitely here Jimi playing on these tracks. All 15 tracks are ear candy for your ears....Then you flip over album two to side two and the opening notes to "Fire" screams from the speakers! Now your into "the meat and potato's of Hendrix! I could go on forever about this set....Just get your copy, you won't be disappointed. At $61.49 and free shipping, it's a no-brainer. A "must" for any Hendrix fan for that matter! Hats off to Eddie Kramer and the folks at "Experience Hendrix" on a job well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Awesome! January 4, 2013
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
First of all , the price for this Box set is the deal of the century. Second, the quality of the Vinyl (as with all new Hendrix LP's ) is fantastic. Think you know all the songs on here? Think again, they are different versions never released. Castles Made of Sand and Are U Experienced are great instrumental versions. Listening to Record 6 right now, side 2 is an awesome 20 minute jam.

8 records and a nice booklet giving you background on the songs. Get this now while it lasts!
