5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Indestructible
I purchased this Zogoflex mainly to round-out my Amazon order of dog discs. The rest of my 'flying disc' order was for my 'real' Frisbee retriever (a big male) with a penchant for hard frenzied chewing between retrieves... well, so much for the myth of the retriever 'soft-mouth'. However I do have another retriever (smaller female) with a very soft-mouth who will not...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, but doesn't fly great
It's thicker and more sturdy than the other brand frisbees, but it is also heavier and doesn't fly as far.

For my dog, who doesn't chew, and NEEDS to go run, run, run, I prefer the better flying, but this one might be perfect for someone with a dog that's a bit harder on frisbees or has a smaller yard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Indestructible, February 13, 2010

This review is from: West Paw Design Zogoflex Dog Toy, Zisc, Colors Vary (Misc.)
However I do have another retriever (smaller female) with a very soft-mouth who will not even catch the harder Frisbees... it was her that I had in mind when I purchased this Zogoflex as its description lead me to believe it was very soft and rubbery. My other dog has shredded other 'rubber' discs in mere seconds and so my intention was to not let him get a hold of the Zogoflex (foolish concept, don't know what I was thinking really). Well, after I got the order in we went out to the park where I decided to 'save' the Zogoflex while we played with the other harder and purported indestructible disc. Over the course of the next couple of weeks the disc-chewing crazy male was actually able to first deformed (he favors bending it over in a taco shape on the return... not an easy thing for a dog to do with a hard disc) and eventually he sliced into the edge in several places making it, in my estimation, too dangerous for him to catch (as in cutting his lip by the spinning sharp edges). So I started him out a second hard disc (as I had anticipated this and bought several) and decided to finally try this Zogoflex out with the soft-mouthed, gentle retrieving female. As was inevitable, eventually the male got to the Zogoflex before the female and began wailing away on it with frenetic chewing... I was sure it would be destroyed or at least cut before I could rescue it..... Nope, when I got there it was apparent he was unable to do any damage what-so-ever to this rubber disc. So I decided to let him have his way with it and we've been using it regularly for his retrieves and now after two weeks of hours-long sessions of retrieving nearly everyday its still managed to not sustain any kind of damage at all. I'm shocked but I'm now also a believer, this disc is truly the once fabled indestrutible disc of lore. Tonight I decided to do a review here just before I order a couple more of these to have one available for the female retriever as the male just dominates this one, single Zogoflex we have now. So after 5 years of buying almost every type of flying disc toy in search of the indestructible flying disc I believe I've finally found it... a truly Indestructible Flying Disc. This one is it!!! BTW, it flies about as good as any other flying disc... a little on the heavy side but the thicker lip of the Zogoflex catches more air for a decent amount of 'hang-time' if thrown level... if you throw it high, it will drop out of the air faster. Careful though since the heavier material used in the Zogoflex doesn't allow it to float in water... it sinks slowly but nevertheless it does sink. My big retriever will go diving for it, but most dogs will not, so if it goes into the water it will sink to the bottom unless you go get it.

Also, if you are looking for an indestructible 'tennis' ball, get the Ultra-Ball by those people that make the Chuck-Its, its really worth the high asking price because not only is it soft, high-bouncing, and floats but it, like the Zogoflex, is absolutely indestructible with the extra-big bonus of being non-abrasive on your dog's canines (you know? those four fangs that hold the ball in your dog's mouth during the retrieve). Now go have some fun with your dog!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for tough dogs, December 15, 2009

If your dog is a tough chewer, then consider this toy. My dog has destroyed every other Frisbee like toy we've purchased, but this one lasts. The key is the self-healing like properties of this rubber-ish disk. When my dog gets a good hold on it, you can actually see her teeth penetrate the disk, yet when she drops it there is no hole. Its quite fun to watch.

My 1 year old pooch destroys anything we give her so this is a big endorsement. We bought her 2, one for inside one for outside. After over a month she has a small rip in one of them but it still has a long way to go.

Note, it's a little heavy to throw in the house so you'll have to be careful. And your pup might have to figure out how to pick it up by bending it. Ours figured it out quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for frisbee dogs and chewers, June 24, 2009

We have had our 1st zisc for a couple years now and my two Australian Shepherds finally managed to destroy it. My bigger Aussie is the frisbee catcher (it flys excellent for me and I'm not a good frisbee thrower) and my other Aussie loves how floppy it is and shakes it around like a maniac. Although West Paw Design allows you to exchange all the zogoflex products for a new one (only once) if your dog is able to damage it, I am here to buy another because over a year is definitely more than any other toy has lasted close to this long (I cannot even leave the kong frisbee with them for more than a second or they will tear it).

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CHALLENGING WATER DISC FOR RETRIEVER, September 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: West Paw Design Zogoflex Dog Toy, Zisc, Colors Vary (Misc.)
Length:: 0:52 Mins

If you have a dog who is OK putting their head underwater, GET THIS DISC ...or get a couple. We have a 3 year old golden retriever and have tried every disc out there, and this is HANDS DOWN his favorite toy. He will leave 6 other discs sitting in the pool, but will always clear out the Zogoflex discs. The key thing is the disc's ability to "SORT-OF" float. It floats but isn't overly buoyant, so the dog will often need to "bob" for the disc or circle til it resurfaces. It's a little more of a challenge and one my dog seems to thrive on. It also appears to stand up well to the elements and moderate chewing - - no cracks or tears in over a year of use so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Durable, November 16, 2009

We love all the Zogoflex dog toys. Our dog is a world class chewer. Nothing has ever survived her relentless picking, tugging, chewing... until these toys. The oldest toy we have is several months old, and still going strong. And she loves playing with them, both alone and with her people. Highly recommended!

2.0 out of 5 stars fun frizbee, not for chewers, March 16, 2009
This review is from: West Paw Design Zogoflex Dog Toy, Zisc, Colors Vary (Misc.)
I bought a toy from this brand and it is quite durable so I got him this hoping it could withstand my lab/pitt too. He loves it but unfortunately he poked a hole in the middle and is ripping it up now but he had fun while it lasted!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly indestructible!, February 27, 2009

We have several of the West Paw Zogoflex toys including this one. They are the only toys that our giant schnauzer cannot destroy, or, for that matter, put a dent in. Everything else from the dog store is destroyed. And yet, they are pliable and not hard (like those hard Nylabones that do not appeal to our dog). They bounce like crazy on our hardwood floors. Our dog loves to chew them. The frisbee is difficult to throw in the usual backhanded manner, but goes a mile when thrown sidearm with the palm facing forward. I would give these toys 8 stars if I could.

This doesn't fly quite as well as the cloth discs and is a little more difficult for our dog to catch...i think because it is a little more bulky that a regular disc. it is tough and is holding up well.
