A very good recording of Bernstein's greatest work. Te Kanawa's glorious lyric soprano voice fits perfectly, and her accent imitation and diction are both perfect.

Carreras' obviously struggles with the diction, and his voice is not totally right for the part. However, he still sings his parts reasonably well, and does blend nicely with Kiri Te Kanawa. Tatiana Troyanos sounds pretty terrible. She slurs and slides her way around, and sounds generally half out of whack with the rest of the cast. The entire ensemble, however, do a great job and fit in well. All round, it's a good, value for your money CD.

The video of the "Making of West Side Story" is a must for anyone who likes great music and also a look at the technical side of making a recording. The music is great and the video is superb.

A great recording of Bernstein's greatest work. I thoroughly appreciated it. Te Kanawa's glorious soprano voice fits perfectly, and her accent imitation and diction is perfect. However, all round, it's a good, worth while CD , with the ensemble doing a great job. Basically only a four star because of Te Kanawa's great work as Maria.
