5.0 out of 5 stars Singingest, Swingingest Interpretation ever played!, May 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: West Side Story: Oscar Peterson Trio (Audio CD)
The arrangements on this album are timeless, a model of masterful trio playing...and these are extraordinary compositions...recorded in the early 60's...fidelity is great...interplay within the trio is unbelieveable...something every player is going to want to take in the shed...the sheer virtuosity contained in this album will take your breath away...STILL fresh and vital after all these years...

5.0 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC, September 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: West Side Story: Oscar Peterson Trio (Audio CD)
I'VE LISTENED TO THIS INCREDIBLE ALBUM SINCE THE 1960s AND IT STILL AMAZES ME. THIS COPY WAS PURCHASED FOR FRIEND AND SHE CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT.

WHAT IS ENDURING ABOUT THIS INTERPRETATION OF BERNSTEIN'S CLASSIC SCORE IS PETERSON'S FRESH CONVINCING APPROACH ENHANCED BY THE EXCITEMENT AND AUTHORITY OF THIS TRIO. UNLIKE OSCAR'S VERY EARLY ALBUMS HERE THERE IS NO TECHNIQUE FOR ITS OWN SAKE. WITH THIS ALBUM THE MUSIC IS THE FOCUS AND THE ARRANGEMENTS ARE STYLED TO CONVEY THE ESSENCE OF THE SCORE FOR THE JAZZ AUDIENCE.

OF COURSE OSCAR'S ENORMOUS TECHNIQUE AND FLUENCY IS ON DISPLAY AND THE EXCITEMENT IT PROVIDES IS GLORIOUS.
SOMEHOW OSCAR PETERSON ALWAYS SEEMS TO CREATE THE "RIGHT WAY" A PIECE OF MUSIC SHOULD BE PLAYED.

JAZZ FAN OR NOT THIS ALBUM WILL IMPRESS.
