Excellent CD!, November 15, 2003
This review is from: Westbound No. 9-Hot... (Audio CD)
The Flaming Ember has been one of my favorite groups since they first came out with Westbound #9. It's unfortunate they didn't last but for 2 albums. What they did put out is full of soul and feeling. This CD would have been excellent as a double CD. In order to include the B sides of their songs, a couple from their second album had to be omitted. But the bulk of what is included on this CD is superb and show the Ember as they were. For a white soul group in the midst of the Motown sound to accomplish what they did was amazing. Unfortunately, after they died out, it seems they were forgotten about. I happen to be in Virgin Megastore in Londonderry, Northern Ireland two weeks ago browsing through their newly opened store and much to my surprise I saw this CD and I just had to buy it. Westbound #9, Shades of Green, Mind, Body, and Soul (probably my favorite) all bring back the memories of the good and bad times I was experiencing in the midst of bombings, killings, and Irish girl friends while I was stationed in Londonderry during their troubles. It is great to hear these songs again and if you've heard them before and haven't heard them in ages, this is the CD for you. So indulge yourself. Buy it, sit back, relax, and recall the good times, or bad time, you were experiencing at the time these songs were permeating the airwaves.

Great songs!, February 19, 2003
This review is from: Westbound No. 9-Hot... (Audio CD)
The Flaming Ember had many great songs between 1969 and 1971: Mind, Body and Soul; Shades Of Green; Westbound # 9, I'm Not My Brother's Keeper. Great voice & instruments. Sure, some of the other songs are fillers, but the big hits make this CD worth buying!!!

Hot Sessions On Wax, August 16, 2008
This review is from: Westbound No. 9-Hot... (Audio CD)
This compilation covers the Detroit bands near output on Hot Wax Records. The Ember's music is a mix of Funk, Rock & Soul. Most of the stuff on here is excellent & the band are great musicians. There is also a bit of filler hence the 4 stars. All in all it's a must purchase.
