Excellent CD!,

The Flaming Ember has been one of my favorite groups since they first came out with Westbound #9. It's unfortunate they didn't last but for 2 albums. What they did put out is full of soul and feeling. This CD would have been excellent as a double CD. In order to include the B sides of their songs, a couple from their second album had to be omitted. But the bulk of what is included on this CD is superb and show the Ember as they were. For a white soul group in the midst of the Motown sound to accomplish what they did was amazing. Unfortunately, after they died out, it seems they were forgotten about. I happen to be in Virgin Megastore in Londonderry, Northern Ireland two weeks ago browsing through their newly opened store and much to my surprise I saw this CD and I just had to buy it. Westbound #9, Shades of Green, Mind, Body, and Soul (probably my favorite) all bring back the memories of the good and bad times I was experiencing in the midst of bombings, killings, and Irish girl friends while I was stationed in Londonderry during their troubles. It is great to hear these songs again and if you've heard them before and haven't heard them in ages, this is the CD for you. So indulge yourself. Buy it, sit back, relax, and recall the good times, or bad time, you were experiencing at the time these songs were permeating the airwaves.

The Flaming Ember had many great songs between 1969 and 1971:Mind, Body and Soul; Shades Of Green; Westbound # 9, I'm Not My Brother's Keeper. Great voice & instruments. Sure, some of the other songs are fillers, but the big hits make this CD worth buying!!!

This compilation covers the Detroit bands near output on Hot Wax Records. The Ember's music is a mix of Funk, Rock & Soul. Most of the stuff on here is excellent & the band are great musicians. There is also a bit of filler hence the 4 stars. All in all it's a must purchase.

another good white soul group from detroit i believe that gave us at least two hit smashes "i'm not my brother's keeper" & westbound #9 is enough reason to buy this album for.they would be very good to mix in with other styled groups & singers like them, like the soul survivors, the box tops, the swingin' medallions, rare earth, awb, manhattan transfer, delaney & bonnie,dr.john, redbone, don fardon, xit(indian folk group from rare earth motown)j.h.

This is probably one of my top three favorite CD's! If Jerry Plunk sounds as good today as he did in the 70's, then he should still be making music! Maybe HDH has some stuff in a vault somewhere - would love to hear more.

Some of the songs were bad; some good.,

I thought the CD was OK. Although I didn't like all the songs, most of them were excellent. All the songs had pretty good lyrics that were sung clearly. I also enjoyed the melodies and rhythm. They were lively and upbeat. Definitely dance-a-ble. What I didn't like about some of the songs was how the lead singer sang. He didn't sound too good in some of them, in my opinion. But for the most part, I really enjoyed listening to Flaming Embers. I totally recommend it.

It's OK, but it definitely could be better,

This CD was exceptional. The lyrics were sung pretty clearly and the music was lively and upbeat. I enjoyed how some of the songs talked about something other than break-ups, sex, or violence (some of the most common music subjects). However, there were a lot of parts that I didn't enjoy. Such as, I thought the lead singer didn't sound that good in my opinion. I guess maybe my expectations were too high, since I only listened to a few songs before buying the CD.
