When I bought this, SMDV Diffuser-60 was a bit more expensive. But since getting Diffuser-60, I should've not have wasted time/money with this model.

Pros:
1. Was (but not any more) a bit cheaper than Diffuser-60.

Cons:
1. Much slower to set up and take down.
2. Light dispersion not as good and not as even. Hot spots are more intense with speedlights.
3. Light is not as soft.

What I found (when compared directly/side by side to/with SMDV Diffuser-60) is that although this Westcott model is bigger, light is not as soft and does not disperse as well. There seems to be two factors for this. First, unlike Diffuser-60, there is only one diffusion panel, so the hot spot is stronger. Also, unlike the SMDV model, the "bowl" is not as deep even though the bowl opening is bigger by almost 2 inches. It was surprising. So, it was very clear that bigger is not better.

So, even if Westcott Rapid Box didn't take twice as long to set up or take down as SMDV Diffuser-60, the light quality isn't as good and isn't worth the price ... that's why I'm giving it a 1 star.

Bottom line is that I am listing mine on E-Bay for sale. Bought SMDV Diffuser-60 instead.

Very solid construction - that alone is worth the cost over the no-name brands. I upgraded from a cowboy square box that had an atrocious mount / speedring setup which wore out in no time.

This one is very sturdy - and once it's set up, it's solid & able to be positioned however you need without worry of anything falling off the stand.

I also grabbed the reflector plate to turn it into a beauty-dish-like setup... Without the diffuser panel on the front, it doesn't work as a beauty dish at all. It creates a donut-shaped light pattern. But with the panel on, you get nice, diffused light.

It's not as portable and quick to set up as some of the cheaper models, but that's not a deal-breaker. I usually keep it mounted and set up on a stand and just lay it on it's back across the back seat of a car. Still very portable.

Folds down and sets up quickly and is quite compact both in stowed form and in use. Because it is small, your best bet is to get it as close to your subject as possible -- preferably right out of frame. That gives you the softest light and the most control. Good in combination with Westcott Rapid Box 10x24" Strip.

Unlike many commenters, I want to add that you do NOT need the Westcott Beauty Dish Deflector Plate for Rapid Box if you are using this in softbox configuration. I did some testing and found that the plate casts a significant shadow in the center, rather than just smoothing the light. If you want even, soft light, what you DO want is Sto-Fen OM-EZ Omni-Bounce Diffuser (or equivalent for your flash). If you don't have that, make sure to set your flash as wide as possible and pull down its wide-angle diffuser.

You can also buy the Westcott Rapid Box Octa Kit w/Beauty Dish Deflector Plate, which is a pretty good value if you don't have a light stand. The one included in that kit gets knocked for being flimsy, but it's decent enough to support this indoors and outdoors when there's no or very light wind. If you need the stand and are wanting the deflector plate despite my note above, it's basically included for free.

I really like the fast set-up time, and the portability of this thing.

The light wraps great around the subject.

I've used it outdoors and indoors and have gotten better
results from it than an umbrella.

Also got the deflector "beauty-dish" for it; haven't seen
any difference, but I think I could do more of a detailed test...

I recently upgraded to the octa softbox from a less expensive softbox, and this thing is so much better in every way. First, it comes with a case and everything fits into when disassembled. Second, the white cover fits over the octa box in a very secure way and produces really nice soft light. Third, an (optional) beauty dish can be installed inside for even softer light from the box. Lastly, the bracket is made really well, fits a lot of different speedlight and wireless transceiver combinations (I've used it with both my 580-EX II and YN-560 II (not at the same time obviously) with Pixel wireless transceivers with no fitment issues), and the bracket has a knob that can be loosened to pivot the box when it's installed on a light stand.

This pivot feature is super useful when the desire is to have the appearance of light coming from above the subject. In all, this is my fav softbox ever. I might actually go buy a bigger version as well.

Used with the optional disc, and the 24" rectangular box of the same brand. The light is distributed so softly and evenly through out the whole frame! A little overprice though, but work great!

Quantum flashes have a large long bulb. The flashhead will fit into the box, but the bulb is prevented from going all the way in by the internals. I bought mine from BHPhoto and going to return it. It is a great box otherwise, but it will only fit Speedlight flashes.
