These like all touch dimmers that plug in between the lamp and the wall, are so simple to install. Just plug it in and touch the metal part of the lamp. But this brand has some very annoying features....

I had a friend give me a few touch dimmers as a gift, but another brand. I liked the feature so much, I came here and bought 5 of the Westek's. 4 out of 5 had such annoying problems, that we went back to the lamp itself. For instance, they would turn on by themselves, they would change the dimmer setting when you walk by the lamp. They would turn on during any lightning storm. It was really annoying to come home, or downstairs in the morning to a number of lamps turned on. It was also so sensitive that you would sometimes have to cycle thru the touches to get the right setting, since it would keep going.

I love the feature but this brand is useless. I recommend the "Touch and Glow" brand. They work just how you would want them too. It's too bad it's not carried on Amazon in this configuration.

I have bought $35 Westek touch dimmers that have worked great for about 5 years, then I must buy another. I have moved, so this time I looked to Amazon for a replacement. I didn't find the exact one I have used before, but thought I would try this one, a little leery of the cheap price and the 3 reviews that said they didn't work. Well, mine didn't work in any of the three lamps I tried it with. So back it goes. First time I have ever returned something to Amazon and glad they make it so easy.

I wanted a touch lamp but the selection is limited, with this product all my lamps can be touch and stylish. I found the sensivitity to be just right, the lamps don't come on in "ghost mode", and operate with a complete touch (more than a brush, less than a hold). I ordered 4 more.

It works fine as long as it is firmly plugged in. If it is jostled even the slightest bit, it does not function properly until the plug is readjusted. I found that bending the tines slightly outward helps significantly, but you must take care not to break the plastic housing.

Shipped to me right away, but it's almost worthless. It does dim the lamp plugged into it, but it also changes brightness when the phone rings, and it often changes the lamp for no apparent reason. Go to bed with the light off...them POW! Light comes on at 2am. It's cheap enough, but you get what you pay for. Spend another $10 and buy a better unit.

I bought four of these and while they were installed it was like living in the haunted mansion! Lights turning on and off by themselves!!

I love this product. In fact I ordered 4 more! I have purchased these in the past here locally. But, when I needed to add some more could not find them here in town. This will turn any metal lamp into a touch lamp. Very convenient and easy to use and install. I have one that is more than 10 years old and still works fine every day.

Bought this for a metal floor lamp used for reading. The lamp did not have a 3 way socket. I ordered this unit. Plugged it into the wall socket and plugged the lamp cord into the unit. Touched the lamp and it turned on high, again, medium, again, low, again, off. I was using a 100 watt bulb in the lamp. I would guess on high it was the full 100 watts, on medium 60 and on low 40. Of course it depends on the max wattage you put in the lamp. Can't say much more than it works. I wish it would allow you to dim and brighten through the full range as a wall dimmer would but this works fine for my needs. My wife can read on medium, low for background light or high if we need a lot of light.

I found these on clearance at Target. Now I know why.

This piece of trash would only turn on the lamp next to bed to the lowest setting. It would not turn off my lamp, nor would it allow the bulb to burn any brighter.

So, I tried it with my desk lamp with one of the expensive Reveal bulbs I need for work. It shot that one immediately when I tapped the lamp. (The bulb was completely cool and hadn't been on for almost 24 hours; so the tapping couldn't have shot the bulb.)

So, I'll be returning these and complaining to the company that they owe me a new Reveal bulb. Want to take bets on if I get one from them?

Update May 8, 2011: Westek has not even acknowledged my request. That should tell you what kind of company it is.
