Westek's unique, patented Power Tap system allows you to connect up to 30 lights anywhere along the power wire and plug in to one outlet. No bulky excess cords or transformers to hide. The idea behind this light system is very a good design and makes for easy, clean mounting without a lot of extra wire. BUT, the "crimping" design they incorporate with each light connection to the main wire doesnt work properly without manual help (at least mine didn't). Basically, you have a main wire and you have "branches" which are the lights with their cords and connectors that "crimp" onto the main wire. The "crimping" is supposed to pierce the sheath of the main wire on its own, without having to strip or splice, etc. Well I bought this set for my mother-in-law...went over to install it. Got all the wires cut to size, all my locations figured out....crimped all my lights onto my main cord, plugged in, and none of them worked...none??
So I went over and over the directions, connections....and got 2 to work...6 more to go...never got others to work....I have to give up and take the thing home to look at it. After about an hour I relaize the "crimping" wasnt working...it wasnt cutting into the main wire enough....I had to use a blade, and cut further into the wire sheath, and expose more raw wire to get a better contact to the connector, to power the lights...got them all working but what a pain!!! The idea was good, but it didnt work for me without a lot of time and effort.

These were purchased for our kitchen. They work great for under cabinet lighting. We placed them approx 30" apart and put them on a dimmer switch. Now we hardly ever turn on the main lights, we just use these. We have had these installed almost 1 year and we have replaced 1 bulb out of the 6 lights.

I bought 6 of these to put into some cabinets in my basement. As described by the first reviewer, the crimping system doesn't work and requires manual intervention.
