1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, December 10, 2009

I would rate this no stars if I could. I bought this timer along with another timer made by Woods. I duly charged the timer. Programming was easy. Unfortunately it would not work. Nothing would make it work - including resetting it. It ended up in the trash. The Woods timer did work okay. Don't waste your money on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless, April 1, 2010
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Westek TE04WHB Digital Timer, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
Buying this timer is absolutely the same as throwing money in the trash. I programmed it via the instructions 7 times, and not once did it work. I even had an engineer friend read the instructions and try it, and no go. It just flat out doesn't work. It deserves -1 stars. POS!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth a purchase -- keep shopping, December 11, 2011

Here's one problem with auto mode: It will only turn on the output in auto mode when the actual time _passes_ the set 'turn on' time, but it will not turn in auto mode if you put it into auto mode after the set 'turn on' time -- it waits for the next day.

For example, let's say the program is set to turn it on at 7:30 pm. If you put it into auto mode when the actual time is 7:29 pm, the output will turn on at 7:30 pm as programmed. HOWEVER, if you put it into auto when the actual time is 7:31 pm, the output will not turn on until the next day. This is very frustrating when you trying to set it up and test it.

I would stay away from this timer.

I would have recommended the Woods brand, but that one died when it sat in a closet over the summer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply DOES NOT WORK!, July 17, 2011
This review is from: Westek TE04WHB Digital Timer, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I needed to put my daughter's wake-up light on a timer so I bought this from Target. The first one I bought didn't work (even after leaving it plugged in for a couple days). So I returned it to Target and bought another one thinking the one I bought was just a bad one. The second one I bought also DID NOT WORK! So I will be bringing it back to Target and looking for a different brand.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not accurate description, June 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Westek TE04WHB Digital Timer, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
The description states in 2 places that the time can be set "down to the second" and that is not correct. It is still a one (1) min increment timer and cannot be set for turning on at 4:45:35 (ie 4:45 and 35 seconds). Piece crap is now useless to me, but not worth sending back.

The idea of electronic timers appealed to me, since I want them for lamps where the plug is hard to reach and the timers have to be reset with each power failure. I also like the idea of a device that should use less electricity than is needed to power small moters continuously. I ordered this Westek timer and a Woods timer in the same order. This Westek showed no sign of life when plugged in, as well as after a few hours of time for charging (where an hour should have been more than enough). The display just stays blank. There is no visible sign of damage. I had read the other reviews and still thought I'd give it a chance, and unfortunately it's going back. If I hadn't seen such a record of problems as the reviews report for this device, I'd have ordered a replacement. Instead I'll probably order another Woods 59203, after giving it a while in service (seems to work fine so far). This Westek model must either be a flawed design, or has execptionally poor manufacturing. It looks like something to avoid.

I forgot to read the reviews on this item before I bought it. Everyone is right. I followed the instructions step by step over and over and for the life of me I cant get it to work. Total waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars resets itself.., August 3, 2010
This review is from: Westek TE04WHB Digital Timer, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
i bought this product for the fan in my room. it works like its suppose to BUT if you manually turn off the fan while its running on the timer, the timer shuts off and will reset all the settings/clock and you have to set everything all over which is really annoying. i bought this on clearance at Target, now i know why it was on clearance.

3.0 out of 5 stars 50% works great, July 24, 2010

Ordered two. One arrived DOA -- will update review upon receipt of replacement -- the other works great: no backup batteries to buy (internal rechargeable included), one button to turn on or off manually or otherwise change or return to operating mode, display is large enough to be read easily, small enough to allow another plug to fit in wall outlet. Note that this will not accept 3-prong plugs.

Edit: Now I would go with 1 star. The replacement for the second item is also DOA, so guess the working one is the exceptions, rather than the rule. Just a waste of time and the planet's resources to order this item and have it shipped and returned. Will try another brand next time. Of course Amazon's return/replacement/refund procedure is the best.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk! Better off with a mechanical timer, January 22, 2012
This review is from: Westek TE04WHB Digital Timer, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this sort of on impulse at Target a few weeks ago, and will be returning it as soon as I find the receipt. I would have went for a basic mechanical timer, but this was all they had in stock. I figured even a basic $10 timer would work correctly, but this does not. I didn't find it difficult to program (although the buttons are a little hard to press), and it doesn't feel that "cheap", but it simply does not work. If you cycle through the on/off/auto too fast, or on its own will, the screen will flash and erase all program settings. I think for the past two weeks, it turned on correctly maybe three times after resetting the unit many times. I think I'll get my money back and buy an old fashioned mechanical timer...never a problem with them. I can't believe Target is still selling this item with so many complaints.
