A Must-Have, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Western Apache Material Culture: The Goodwin and Guenther Collections (Paperback)
This book doesn't have page after page of pictures on cultural material. Some people may think this a fault. However, it does show many items that aren't often seen and covers the gamut of the material discussed. And these are photographs of the real deal - not line drawings. The gem in this book is the text because there is information not found elsewhere. People totally immersed in Apache life had the interest to document cultural material at a critical time. The documentation of the collection discussed was so well done, it ensures accuracy of the nature of the material it covers. If a person wants a more advanced book on Western Apache culture - this is a good one. It is also one of the only books that seperates Western Apache from the others. This book also contains literature citations that support the statements and that provide further research opportunity. This book is a must-have.
