I like this text book. I am working my way through it and anticipator writing a thorough review when I finish (because I have read the whole thing or give up). What convinced me to take this on was that I rounds good treatments of several areas of particular interest to me.

Standard textbook stuff,

FIne and worth the money. A text book is a text book. If in doubt read two or three different ones so that you will be sure to cover everything. Otherwise, read the treatises of the time periods that interest you most. These large textbooks are meant for general introductions to history. Take it as such and not to be read as the bible/koran/torah/etcetera.
