It was easy to format and install Ubuntu 9.10 on this drive. It's very fast and quiet. Picasa imported 49,000 photos at top speed. It's currently storing 60 GiB with no errors.

The drive was healthy with no bad sectors. It passed the extended self test. All SMART data was in the green.

Packaging was a simple cardboard box, but it had folded cardboard spacers to center and hold the drive half an inch from the top and bottom, 1 inch from the sides, and 1.5 inches from the front and back. Amazon shipped it in a larger box with an air cushion. The drive had a well sealed anti static bag.

I'm very happy with the product. It made a good first impression. I'm using Ubuntu's file encryption and everything still feels fast. It's working well with a first generation SATA motherboard. I didn't need to add any jumper. It appears to fly along at top system speed.

I bought this drive to install and run an OS on, but i partitioned 50 gigs to the system and 200 for data storage. I've heard getting large hard drives for the operating system can couse it to slow down, but no problem here. First off it is very quiet, and runs very good. It's always stayed pretty cool, as long as its being ventilated. The speedy 7200 RPM disk really helps on loading/saving files on your computer. There isn't much to say since a hard drive only stores and loads files, pretty basic stuff. I'm definitly happy I purchased this product and looking foward to buying another one for my next build.

I got this hard drive to replace my old one that was in my dell inspiron 530s .The old one had a bad sector in it and somehow I fixed the bad sector with a partion software and a few months after the old one started getting around 115f every 30 min . When I got the new the western digital 250gb from amazon i got it in the mail took it out of the box it did not have screws or a sata 2 cable so I had to get the screws off of the old one and the sata 2 cable . It was easy to put in the hard drive and I haven't had no trouble with it and it never ran hot it runs around 100f to 109f

Its a great product! Came quick as psromised. Packaged very well. I gotta say I didn't read the return policy but it was in the box and it was great to know I could return it easily if neede! BUY IT!

I got the drive on the day as promised, installed it in to my MacBook, went in to disk utilities to format the drive and it was ready to have OS X installed.
No problems, buy it for your MAC laptop, don't waste your money on a hard drive specifically made for a MAC.
I paid $44.99, can't beat the price.

Easy to install into computer. If you have windows xp you would have to activate the drive from memory management. Besides that is has a great amount of space (actual space is 230GB)
and is very fast. Definetly recommend this product to those who need either a cheap yet fast master drive or just need a little extra room for those games and movies.

I wouldn't advise anyone to order this product! We purchased the SATA drive, and they send us a completely different model with much older technology. The external and internal packaging was all mislabeled, but the older model number was clearly on the drive itself. I received poor service from Amazon trying to make the return, and will not be purchasing similar products in the future.

no longer recognized in bios ... data all gone on client.. stuck spindle can't spin up, chatters.. still a WD fan!!

I have received in time at home! This product works great, i just had some problems with installing, because i thought it was just plug and play... i had to install a Windows and format it, to use like a secondary disk with my old IDE 40GB HD
